Re: Balance control a little off

   hmm the buyer took the tfm-55 to a local tech (to check some stuff and change the lamps) who has no doubt never seen or touched a carver in his life (I think I have the only tfm amp in existence here in Uruguay), and came back saying the sound cuts out at 50% volume!...

Re: Balance control a little off

Thanks guys.

I'll inform the new owner. I never used the balance controls and not sure why he wanted it.
Better to bypass it true.

Balance control a little off

Hi guys, Been a while since I've been here. Hope everyone is well. Had to say farewell to my well served tfm55 and ct3 today. Needed the space and cash. Found a good buyer who knew what he was looking for. We noticed a slight issue with the balance control. One side on the tfm55 balance doesn't quit...

Re: TFM-55 power dial lights stopped working

even on the dimmer the lights don't work.

Are they in series so if one goes the circuit is cut?

I'll whip off the top and test their resistance out with the DMM.

Thanks

p.s no Kens here I'm afraid. What specs do they have? (voltage/watts)

Re: Custom amp created by Bob Carver

The top will be off when using the amp. I'll see the tubes enough I think. I'm more about hearing the music than seeing tubes glowing anyway. I usually shut the lights off on all my gear while I'm listening. Bob put blue LEDs in the face of this amp and he put an on/off switch for me. I hate starin...

TFM-55 power dial lights stopped working

Hi guys, Been a while since I've posted anything here. Recently my 2 cluster lights on the front panel have stopped working. Both at the same time so I assume it's not just a blown light. Can anyone assist me with re-illuminating my needle power dials on the front panel? It's juts not the same witho...

Re: Offset problem with TFM-55?

Nice to meet you Chris! I recognize your avatar but don't recall any posts recently. Montevideo, Uruguay looks like a very nice place, would really like to vacation there some time. thanks mate. Yep no posts for a long time. Kids take up a lot of your time. Also been working on rebuilding an old al...

Re: Offset problem with TFM-55?

Hello Carver guys, Just popping in to say hello. Been absent for a long time here for sure. Happy new 2012 year to everyone. Bit late I know. My Carver is still going strong after all the help I got from this forum rebuilding it. Never forget this long thread. My son is almost 2 years old now, can't...

Re: PAIA tube buffer

Try this out with a 6N6P (or something similar, changing bias resistors as necessary): Also you could put a CCS on the plate to keep things stable. LED's are also a great alternative to cathode resistors and work well with a CCS on the plate. This is a Cathode follower with bootstrap. See how few co...

Re: Improving the power supply of the TFM series.

so ultra-fast rectifiers, necessary in digital power supplies, aren't necessary here. What could help are ultra-fast switching diodes and maybe snubbers Thanks for the info guys. Yes I was aware of the triac system but not too much. When I refer to the rectifiers I did mean the diodes that convert ...

Re: PAIA tube buffer

doesn't look simple to me. [-( I can give you a design that is far simpler and out perform this. Are you looking for a buffer, no gain, just as a passive tube sound between a source and amp? Buffer, such as cathode followers can degrage the sound if not done properly but it can still be done very ea...

Improving the power supply of the TFM series.

I've spent a couple of years working with valve amps now and discovered tweaking the power supplies can make a big difference in the sonic capabilities. I'm planning to look at the rectifiers and caps in my TFM-55. Probably will experiment with changing to ultra fast rectifiers (maybe Hexfreds), and...

Re: PAIA tube buffer

What are you using this for? Do you have a schematic? 12AX7 is not the best choice for a buffer due to it's non-linearity. Better for guitar amps (unless that's what you're doing 8) .) What specs do you have? B+? PSU design? AC on heaters? Resistor cathode bias? I've made some with 6N6P, 6N1P and 56...
