a return to Carver - a M-500t on the way

I needed another amp like I need a hole in my head, but surfing around I came across a M-500t and C2 on ebay with a buy it now of $275.00 - sorry, I am not sure how to use the url - http://www.ebay.com/itm/200949375723?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 I have owned the TFM-35 amps a...

Re: wtb - non-working TFM series amp

i have had my eye on a couple, but as mentioned, prices for them have gone up lately. Sure it is because of Bob and Rita - I want one more for experimenting on and to play around with tho, so will just keep an eye out for one a little more beat up maybe

wtb - non-working TFM series amp

I am looking to buy a non-working TFM series amp. All I really want is the input potentiometer out of it.

Re: tfm-35 diode identification ?

ok, I have to take the good with the bad - not totally giving up yet, but just replacing the resistors and diodes didn;t do it. Powers up now, but no output. Checked a few things, seemed ok, so I just put it up for a bit. Will pull it out and try it again after I get some other things done, but look...

Re: tfm-35 diode identification ?

billd - I am truly grateful to the people who put up with my questions and like good audio, I enjoy the path of least resistance, after 29 years of marriage I get enough flak from the wife . On a side note - I believe the problem is fixed, no smoke anyway. Turns out I have a broken output level so n...

Re: replacement for 175 WIV high speed diode

actually I went with a 1N5617 only ordered 20,000 update - on a whim, I emailed Rita's shop and asked them what diode they used as the replacement for this. First, is amzing they take the time to answer questions like this, but even more surprising to me, Rita says she uses the 1N4004 diode there. I...

Re: replacement for 175 WIV high speed diode

I am taking for granted that that one will be appropriate then. I am only going to order 30,000 of them tho - if I do not get it right by then, I am sending it to Bob

replacement for 175 WIV high speed diode

I could get lucky and be one diode away from a great deal on a TFM-35. Of course the diode is not one I am familiar with and not enough info for me to cross reference. It is D233 , a 175 WIV high Speed .4 diode. Cursory google search for "175 wiv diode" gives me nothing. Searching through Mouser and...

Re: tfm-35 diode identification ?

the big caps look ok, but i will swap them out anyway. As he said it was working until the diodes fried, i will probably see if I can't get it working 1st, then if i do will recap it - this way if i don't fix it, i will let Rita take care of that stuff. I will try to get a pic up before i dig in, bu...

Re: tfm-35 diode identification ?

not to start a pissing contest and will be my last post on the subject. Not knowing enough to find obsolete diodes falls into this category? I personally worked on every single guidance system for the minuteman missile that went down for repair. If it needed work, it did not go back online unless it...

Re: tfm-35 diode identification ?

while I agree that sending it to them would be the prudent thing to do, I must admit I do not always do the most prudent thing. I have been out of "real" audio for quite some time and have just recently got back into it. Buying older gear, it all needed some work, re-capping etc. I have found that a...

tfm-35 diode identification ?

first, I am not that bright but am enjoying my experiences in learning how to do this and have not electrocuted myself yet....so excuse my not so intelligent questions when possible.... Picked up a TFM-35 today. Guy says(and I trust him), was working fine when it just sort of went poof. Opened it up...

Re: wondering, carver amp theory info?

the service manuals for the M4.0t and the tfm-45 were pretty much what i was looking for, not that I understand any of it. I would imagine if I lived within driving distance of Bob and Rita, I would re-think doing this myself. But i enjoy doing it, am a slow learner but learning quite a bit more the...

Re: CARVER PM-1200 Amplifier excessive buzz

I could be way off base here so take this with a grain of salt, do not even know if this is your problem, but may be worth a shot. Could it be a ground loop hum ? I had a really bad hum on a Crown DC-300A II amp I have and checking around about it, came across an article somewhere that recommended u...
