Re: List Your System !!!

Just bought a set of AL-III with what is claimed "upgraded woofers and polyester capacitors in the ribbons high pass section of the crossover" from the original owner (Antony) who was in Washington State rubbing elbows with Bob Carver during my pick-up from Manning SC. Darn they are heavy. Hope to h...

Re: new member. Am using Carver speakers only.

Ribbons are still working great after heat-gun treatment over three years ago. Have mounted two shorter ribbons for surround speakers in 12 inch diameter round concrete forms from LOWES. Filled with fiberglass. Works great and has same voicing as main large front ribbons.

Re: new member. Am using Carver speakers only.

Yes. I used a heat gun and went back and forth over the areas where buzing was suspected. The gun was always in motion to prevent damage from exessive heat. I knew the yellow plastic used could take a lot of heat, but not the adhesive for the metal ribbon. We used the plastic film in tape form as in...

Re: new member. Am using Carver speakers only.

Hi Neighbor
Yes, I worked for eight years in the Division of Engineering Services. We assisted the research efforts in the six colleges of engineering. Done a few other things since then.
I finally graduated from work and am having a blast living on the lake and traveling in our RV.

Re: new member. Am using Carver speakers only.

Thanks, That is the best suggestion I had so far. Will have to find out if DaveS uses KAPTON and if it is reasonable in todays enviroment. Only found someone in FL doing this, but he did not use KAPTON. This bulletin board is very slick, have to find out how to get a private message to DaveS. Discus...

Re: new member. Am using Carver speakers only.

The replacement woofers are WP1220 from Dynavox. I have enough for two platinums and two silvers. If I ever find my original hardware (angle brackets and screws and new binding post mounting plates) (the original plates cracked beyond use for no good reason) burried in a box somewhere, I will reasse...

Re: new member. Am using Carver speakers only.

Yes (The buzz was there before I disassembled them from the original baffle and cross-over) It is a very sharp digital high-pass filter similar to the analog Chebechev type without the phasing problems. The low cutoff for the ribbons is set for 100 Hz and the high cutoff for the subwoofer is set for...

Re: new member. Am using Carver speakers only.

I am sure it is the ribbon. The long ribbons are used presently in a minimum baffle as stand-alones along with a DOMINATOR D-10 subwoofer. The original woofers blew all the foam surrounds to shreds watching MATRIX 3, have replacement woofers in boxes, ready for installation. Thanks for the numerous ...

Re: Is there room for a 30ft motor home?

Thanks for the advice and forewarning. I can tow my GEO METRO LSi 5 speed 900cc. It climbs about anything. I will search for a campground nearby. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Is there room for a 30ft motor home?

I usually travel with my 30ft Winnabago motor home. It needs no hockups for 10 days, but I run the generator to keep cool while sleeping. Do you know of a spot I can park nearby for 10 days?

new member. Am using Carver speakers only.

Have studied the lengthy carver patent for ribbon speaker construction. But am still not sure how to get the occasional buzz out. Any suggestions?
