Re: PM 1200 on high end only

I use both PM 1.5 and PM 1.5A amps for pro audio. The PM 1200 is a PM 1.5A with a darker faceplate. The PM 1.5A/PM 1200 amps differ from the original PM 1.5 via the addition of two extra output transistors per channel and an additional cooling fan to (supposedly) better accomodate lower impedence lo...

PM 1.5--Original Sales Brochure and Dealer Pricing (1983)

I just acquired one of the original sales brochures for the PM 1.5 printed at the time of it's release in early 1983. Also included was a copy of the dealer pricing guide issued at the same time. I have scanned these documents and am making them available to other fans of this amp. Note that the amp...

Re: CARVER PM 1200

The switch is not broken--they're hidden that way from the start. Fans should run at about the same speed, but in my experience none of these variable AC fans run at the same speed at any given time/load. Make sure they are lubricated--use a really light oil or silicone lube. These amps are indeed b...

Re: CARVER PM 1200

Make sure you bridge it correctly--I have all PM 1.5 amps and they have to be externally jumpered to carry the signal to both channel inputs and then there is a recessed switch between the XLRs that has to be changed. The PM 1200 is the same as a PM 1.5A--which is the updated version of the PM 1.5 a...

Re: CARVER PM 1200

You can bridge that amp to accomplish your goal--the gain controls are detented as well as labeled fairly clearly, so you can set both channel controls to the same level.

Re: PM 1.5 that just won't quit--turn off

I use sequenced power conditioners for all of my amps, but the objective here is not for it to work, but to work CORRECTLY--I'd like to find the source of the problem and fix it. A lot of amps use relays on the power supplies that may become sticky or burned, but this is not the case with the PM 1.5...

PM 1.5 that just won't quit--turn off

I have a bunch of PM 1.5 amps and have encountered one that does not want to turn off via the Power and Sequencer switches on the front panel. I checked both switches with a meter and they are in proper working order. The amp functions fine otherwise, but must be turned off by unplugging or turning ...

Re: Carver PM 1.5 User-Adjustable Clip Limiter Function

Thanks--makes sense to me. Now I just have to dig up the specs for the drivers in these cabinets to see what they're up for (after some testing first). It would seem that you could take fuller advantage of the amp's dynamic power based upon the driver's ability to handle the higher output voltage. I...

Re: Carver PM 1.5 User-Adjustable Clip Limiter Function

Thanks for the input, hoping for some more. BillD, that's exactly what I know about these controls so far, but the user manual and service manual stop there. I'm hoping to find out what impact any adjustments would have on loudspeaker or amplifier protection. It appears (to me) that these are intend...

Carver PM 1.5 User-Adjustable Clip Limiter Function

I have a bunch of PM 1.5 amps that I use (as intended) for pro-audio/sound reinforcement applications. Recently, I acquired several amps that have user-adjustments for the clip limiter on the faceplate--something I have not encountered before. All PM 1.5s have a switch to defeat/apply the limiter fu...
