Met Bob at RMAF 2017

Was listening in the Carver room, and as I was leaving I started a conversation with one of his minions and another audio enthusiast. The topic was the value of high end cables in a system. I come down on the side of as long as it is electrically suitable for the task with proper shielding as needed...

Re: WTB: CCS Trio 8 Subwoofer Drivers (need pair...)

I have a pair of Trio 8s. Those are some great little drivers. I used them in a prototype Danley Soundlabs TH-SPUD. That cabinet with those speakers would put out some serious bass. They probably have a hundred hours on them if that much. I would be willing to sell them just because I can't get them...

Re: What kind of listener are you?

Eclectic, music wise as I like a lot of genre's. Technology wise, I view each piece as art, as in "I know what I like when I hear it." Last evening I was listening to "Dark Side of the Moon" on SACD at about 102 DB at the listening position, and really enjoyed; A) The bass I'm not talking in your ea...

Re: AL III+

OK, I've posted them on Craigs List for $450.

Got a call from one of the local CL lurkers within a few minutes of posting. We'll see if anyone wants them soon enough.

Paul.

Re: AL III+

In case you are wondering, those little babies next to the AL II+s are some speakers I built, they are the rears in my HT. The turntable is a Thorens TD-126, and the receiver is a Sansui 9090 DB. <Edit> OK, I guess there are two turntables, the one in picture 1 is a little Pioneer Linear tracking TT...

Re: AL III+

Ok, you want pictures, here are some pictures. They look pretty good, and actually they really aren't all that bad unless you get up close. Pristine they are not, but you wouldn't be too embarassed to have them in your system. I wasn't going to post pictures here because I figured nobody would want ...

Re: AL III+

I was thinking $450. If anyone wants them, come and get them. I will be happy to fire 'em up. You can compare them against a number of different cone & dome speakers, including 3 different KEF's some JBL, Infinity, Bose and even some White Van Speakers (WVS). I'll probably post them on Craigs List t...

Re: AL III+

No problem, come on down... As they say in the neighborhood I grew up in, "Cash talks, bullshit walks..." Since no one is helping me out with pricing, I think I will offer them for about the price of one of the ribbons. It might make more sense for me to just cannibalize them and piece them out on E...

AL III+

I have a pair of black AL III+. I live in S Florida, and will be putting on CL soon. My wife & I like the sound a bit better than my current fronts (KEF 105.4s) but they are too imposing, and my amps go into self preservation mode when driven too hard (They don't have a problem with my KEFs). They s...

Re: Carver 5.2

I bought the center speaker/amp from James. Paid more for the amp/center than I paid for the two fronts, but considering all that James did for me, it was worth it. I spent some time on Sunday hooking it up to my Family room system, and it all works well. Since this system is used 100% for TV watchi...

Re: AL III Plus issue with Emotiva Amp.

BTW my definition of loud is, I normally play the system for HT and moderately loud music at -15 DB on the processor (Pioneer Elite Receiver) the last failure point for the speakers was at about -3 DB. I have played my KEF's in the +DB range with no failure. I do not do this very often, usually when...

Re: AL III Plus issue with Emotiva Amp.

Everything seems to work fine, both woofers and ribbons, unless I try to play them loud, at which point my amp goes into self protect mode. Unless someone has other ideas, I will assume that these speakers were designed with nasty impedance curves that the Emotiva XPA-2 can't handle. I will continue...

Re: AL III Plus issue with Emotiva Amp.

I was measuring from the binding posts, and yes, the fuses were in when I measured.
