Re: BillD is MIA....

It hasn't gone yet, Gary. I'm leaving for the Mayo hospital in about an hour. They're going to tune me up for surgery today and tomorrow (and take some pictures and run tests). The surgery is Wednesday AM. So, I guess I'll take this opportunity to sign off. See you all on the other side of the Mount...

Re: Just Pulled The Trigger on a C-1

Well, I did all my usual stuff. I replaced the moving magnet phono op-amp with an OPA2134, but replaced the line op-amp with an OPA2228 (quieter in every respect). I replaced ALL the electrolytic caps and the polarized ones that were in the signal path with non-polar Muse Nichicons. I didn't touch t...

Re: Just Pulled The Trigger on a C-1

Well, I've modded C-2s and they aren't as easy to mod as a C-1. The primary reason is that the circuit board that has all the pots on it up front, also contains all the electronics for the tone controls, which are UNDERNEATH the pots. So, not only do you have to take all the pots off the chassis, yo...

Re: BillD is MIA....

Well, it's the real deal now. I talked to my surgeon this morning, and my heart surgery (the nasty saw through the sternum kind) is Wednesday 11/16. They're checking me into the Mayo Clinic Hospital Monday to get me tweaked up for surgery. The surgeon says I will be in the hospital about 10 days aft...

Re: lights for tfm

If the voltage is 12V, they should work, yes. Calculating the value of the current limiting resistor is a simple application of Ohms law. An LED is a current driven device, which means its brightness varies by how much current is passing through it. However, too much voltage will "push" too much cur...

Re: Carver AV-705x amp: Is it common ground

Well, the design of that amplifier is a card per amp plugged into a bus. In inverting amplifiers, the signal needs to be "inverted" (hence the name) in one channel. In that all the amp modules are the same it is unlikely that some are made inverting and others not. And, without switches to "make the...

Re: A few changes and a ? on Bi-amping

Well, that;s not quite right Gary. The ribbons are wqhat require the parametrics, because of their non-linear response in the cavity they are mounted in. I believe some Vandersteens have amplified subs. (amplifier in the box). You could put an active crossover in the box, but I doubt this is done. I...

Re: Wiring question

I think only the Silver CT-type woofers are wired out of phase with the ribbon. The non-CT type are not.
