Re: Lightstar Owner Registration

I did read that post, thanks! It would be great for Peter Ledermann to check the amp out, but that's still long haul shipping and SoundSmith is always totally backlogged (because they do such great work). I have a Dynavector MC cart there right now awaiting repair.

Re: Lightstar Owner Registration

Thanks for the info and link! I do have all the original packing material and boxes. But, items as heavy as the amp I fear get brutal treatment from drops in transit. Hence my reluctance to even consider shipping. The "64 Thousand Dollar Question" for me is where these repair facilities get "authori...

Re: Lightstar Owner Registration

So, 8+ years later, how many amps and preamps were ultimately identified? I still have both of mine driving a pair of Polk SDA 2B Studios in a recently put together 2CH listening room. The preamp (and original remote) still work flawlessly. The amp still sounds great, but has developed a slight left...

Re: Thank you, James!

Cause = relay from front panel touch switch inoperable.
Fix = turn off/bypass front panel touch switch with internal slider.

Thank you, James!

Carver_Research_Lightstar_Reference_.JPG My beloved Lightstar Reference amp (number 003) ceased output recently. All I could imagine was this 80 pound pristine treasure having to make a jarring coast-to-coast-to-coast journey for repairs. Thankfully, I PM'ed James for some insights and he graciousl...

Re: Hello one and all!

Hi Gary,

I've been spending most of my time in the South (for work), and we'll be moving there (Sarasota, FL) mid-year. Wish we there now instead of staring down the barrel of yet another blizzard.

This guy likes his PS Audio GCPH with the lightstar pre: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37975 This guy likes that GCPH in any lineup I've tried it in. O:) It's with my Bluenote Bellavista TT now and will probably just stay there. It's world class in my book. I currently have a Bot...

Yep, it's a Marchand XM44 which was custom built to parameters supplied by the speaker designer, Roger Sanders.

I believe it was Feb. 2-3.

BTW - I have the same performance by Miles on LP. No comparison. You are there with this 7.5 ips tape.

Follow-up on the R2R issue: I completely disassembled the Akai deck this morning to find there are no belts whatsover (a good thing in my book.) I then took the chassis to the garage and hit everything really well with the spray nozzle for my air compressor, lubed any contacts I could find with Caig...

Incidentally, I learned another interesting tidbit while there; the original Lightstar amp weighs 98 (Yes, NINETY-EIGHT!) pounds!! DAMN! Ask Mike how he squeezed it into his (very nice) rack.... I looked it up this morning Gary, and 98 lbs. was the shipping weight for the amp and preamp combined . ...

Thanks guys. The upstairs system shown is most definitely my favorite. It has morphed over the past 3 years or so into a very synergized matching of component parts. My wife, Sandy, can take the most credit. She has never once complained, or given me "the look", as an endless array of speakers and c...

Gary and Neil just left. We had a very enjoyable afternoon of listening to and discussing music. They're both top shelf guys, and I hope they'll come by again soon.

Gary: the cartridge on the Bluenote Bellavista table is a Dynavector DV-20X(H). Sorry for the senior moment!

Yeah, filled with sulfuric acid.

I believe this could be modified to work with speaker grills:
