Re: Toymans new toys!

I've been looking at one of these, good reviews and the price isn't bad for brand new: http://shop.grantfidelity.com/Grant-Fidelity-TubeDAC-11-D-A-Converter.html I have both the DAC 11 and the DAC 09, both among the first units shipped and can vouch that the 2 are in completely different classes. Re: How would I connect a wireless sub' transmitter?

Which specific sub, sub wireless transmitter and specific Carver preamp are you attempting to hook up? The answer will depend on the products used, but the majority of sub wireless transmitters I have seen have the crossover built-in and are designed to plug into your preamp outputs and have a set o...

Re: Ohms and running multiple speakers on one amp

To say that a speaker's "rated" impedance is an approximation is putting it mildly. Some 8 ohm speakers dip down well below 4 ohms at certain frequencies and up to over 40 ohms at other frequencies and my 5 ohm speakers dip down to 1.5 ohms. Here are the actual impedance curves for a few "8 ohm" spe...

Re: 490t tube change time??

I've used both NOS Mullard ECC88 and JAN Philips 6922 Green labels, both of which are a big step up in terms of sound over the stock tubes in my SD/A-490t. The JANs are more detailled and smoother in the highs than the Mullards which have a slightly darker, more mellow sound and a bit fuller bass. M...

Re: BillD, a great forum member has passed away...

I woke up this morning with this sinking feeling that there would be news about Bill, but never really expecting it to be this sort of news. To Bill's family and friends I send my heartfelt sympathies but also my thanks and gratitude for being a rock of logic and plain good sense in this really scre...

Re: Remote for CM-1090

Basic Remote terminology 101 Learning Remote = only learns codes from existing, working remotes. Programmable Remote = only allows you to use pre-programmed codes to control equipment with missing or broken remotes. Many newer universal remotes allow you to both learn and program. BTW, the original ...

Re: Best Sub to use with TFM35

Eddie, I'm not sure that it will actually hurt the amp, but it will keep it going into protect mode all the time and it will sound horrible, especially in the bass to to the lack of damping factor at low frequencies (muddy, sloppy, etc ...). The way to use the TFM-35 to drive a sub is to use only 1 ...

Re: I don't know a thing!

Welcome to the forum. I believe you should have no issues driving them with your current system. As for transport they are quite large and might not fit in your Jeep. Plat's are 30" wide and 60" high. I just recently helped move a set. If you know someone with a mini van that would fit the bill. Ac...

Re: Home Theaters and THX

Yes Bill, they did go back to adjustable pots with a calibration mark on later models, but for those 2 first THX models, the 35x and 55X, that was they way they did it as far as I could find out. Maybe the THX standard loosened up a bit as it got more and more popular. To be absolutely certain we wo...

Re: My electronic mistress...

I had the same thing with the 521bee; sounded nice but somehow missing something, especially after I got my Oppo and Nakamichi. I now also have a Carver SD/A-490t Tube CDP which sounds much nicer than either the NAD and Nakamichi MB-3s but different from the Oppo. The Oppo's strengths are the SD/A-4...

Re: Home Theaters and THX

I recall the THX subject being brought up at Carverfest. As I remember Mr. Carver told us the only difference in his amplifers such as the TFM35 and the TFM35x is only one simple little resistor was added to the X series amps. Rainman Rainman, I also read that but with a slight twist. The variable ...
