Re: 490t and 390t Tube replacement ????

If you are using a 6DJ8 you can also use an ECC88 (European) or a 6922. Coming from a pro-sound viewpoint, we change tubes that are usually over 7 to ten years old, the fillaments after prolonged use will have a tendency to arc. There are not too many tube manufacturers left, but of who is left I li...

Re: A-760X right channel out

The .22 5 watt sounds more like it. See, the amp was shipped and dropped by UPS. They bent the rack handles on the front and the binding posts on the back. I metered out the speaker terminals on the back to make sure that they weren't shorted to the chassis and that turned out to be OK. Upon powerin...

A-760X right channel out

Does anyone have a schematic or service manual for an A-760X that could check what the factory resistor value is for R64 (next to the positive binding post) on the amp right side module with the mono switch?

Re: Platinum MKIV Ribbon Lead

Again, thank you for your informtion. So I took one of my destroyed 60" ribbons and sandwiched a new piece of Kapton between the MDF panels and glued enough 30 awg tesla coil wire to it to achieve about 4 ohms. (This is the same lead type application that Magnepan uses) Then I screwed the outer plat...

Re: Audio Repair in the Southwest

Well, I have a solid background in generic solid state and tube amplifier topology and am very fluent with the TFM, A, and AV series amplifiers. On the aspect of repair, a circuit is a circuit, and each individual component is doing its job to specifications or it isn't. So some manufacturers use an...

Audio Repair in the Southwest

Greetings all. I have opened a small pro and home audio repair shop in the Desert Southwest. I am repairing tube and solid state amplifiers, tube preamplifiers, and allmost anything in the pro-audio realm. I also repair Magnepan planar transducers, but not Carver ribbons, I'll leave that to Mr. Dave...

Re: Platinum MKIV Ribbon Lead

Yes, I am talking about the actual aluminum trace leads. Thank you very much Toy Maker, I was assuming around 30 awg but I wasn't sure. I very much appreciate everyone's input.

I actually don't know what was done to the crossovers. The upgrade was done by Fernando Mack. I could dig into it though, if I could get my hands on an original x-over schematic and component values, or if you could send me some good pics of yours, I could decipher the difference. Or I could send yo...

Wow, mine have a white primer coat....interesting. As for the baffles, I designed them to the same size as the original laquer baffle and milled them on a Haas CNC and had a local company polish them for me, and they are extremely rigid, but the benifit being worth the money? Absolutely not. I was a...

Hello, the Amazings are actually done in a virgin black laquer over a white primer coat. I've done a few upgrades to my Amazings: rewired, new crossovers, black Kapton formers for the ribbons, and for giggles made completely new baffles out of a 1 inch thick sheet of aluminum, then had them polished...
