Problem with M-500

Today, after almost 30 years of daily use, I noticed a "problem" with my M-500. Perhaps one of you fine gentlemen have come across this issue before. I was cranking my system pretty hard (0db+) when my main speakers shut off. Startled by this, it took me a few seconds to get out of the recliner. Abo...

Re: Which Carver Preamp?

Thanks Rainman but all this talk of black equipment has confused the issue. Almost all of my Carver equipment is pewter and that's what I want to match. The Onkyo Grand Integra preamp that the new unit would replace is black. (The black Denon CD player in the photo I posted is usually in another roo...

Re: Which Carver Preamp?

I think you misunderstood about the "brushed aluminum".....they are a brushed aluminum FINISH, but the color is almost BLACK~ Thanks TNRabbit . I thought they looked pretty dark.... And I didn't misunderstand, I was "unintentionally misled". When he said aluminum I was thinking of the co...

Re: Which Carver Preamp?

The Sunfire preamps are a brushed aluminum style finish. I attached a pic of my system with the two Sunfire 300 amps. They have the same finish as the Sunfire Preamp and you can also see how they would look with the rest of my Carver. Nice, clean layout thuffman =P~ but I'll have to take your word ...

Re: Which Carver Preamp?

Thanks for your replies thuffman and TNRabbit . I didn't think of this before, however, if I'm going to replace the Onkyo . I'd like the new preamp to match my existing equipment, sonically AND cosmetically. I've never seen Sunfire equipment "in the flesh" but in photos they look to be black or dark...

Which Carver Preamp?

Howdy folks, I'm pretty new to this wonderful forum but I've been an audiophile for more than 40 years and a Carver fan for close to 30 years. Until very recently I hadn't purchased any new hardware since the late 80's. A few weeks ago my DTL-200 began skipping tracks and dropping samples so I picke...

Re: How many times have you had to repair your speakers?

I've had my custom deisgned Legacy Audio satellites/sub-woofers for more than 20 years and so far so good. (The only thing I've destroyed are a few eardrums...) I don't baby them either. Each speaker is powered by it's own amp - two M-500's for the satellites and two M-1.5t's for the subs - so I hav...

Re: Looking For The Electrician (or Someone Like Him...)

That's a pretty fancy little junior drum set TNRabbit . A lot nicer than the Pacific's my son learned on.. http://img46.imagevenue.com/loc215/th_49159_Zack1s_1st_drum_set_122_215lo.JPG In case anyone is interested, here's a shot of some of MY favorite toys - a 1979 Gibson GK-55 with most of my Carve...

Re: Looking For The Electrician (or Someone Like Him...)

FYI, the M1.5t is NOT a bridgeable amplifier... :-s Perhaps bridging is the wrong term. I have both M-1.5t's wired for mono according to the diagram silk-screened on the rear panel. Also, you might consider some sort of bi-amping as an alternative, as bridging GENERALLY lowers sound quality~ 8) I p...

We called ourselves Dubious Noise. (Probably an appropriate moniker!)
We played mainly the Holiday Inn circuit (Wisconsin/Illinois/Indiana) from 1976 through 1981.

Looking For The Electrician (or Someone Like Him...)

Holy transistors Batman! I just stumbled on this forum dedicated to Bob Carver and his wonderful audio equipment. I had no idea such a thing existed. I've been a big fan of Carver products since the days of the Phase Linear 4000. (Oops, make that Phase Linear 400, the amp not the pre-amp...) Wish I ...
