Another bonus find!!!

Well, last week when I was on my "staycation", the family and I took a ride down to Ithaca, NY (just south of CNY - our two newest members from CNY will know where I am talking about) and stopped at a stereo shop just outside of town. Looky, looky at my newest addition to the family.

Man, am I stoked. Got it real reasonable. Came with working remote. CD tray was sluggish, so they put a new belt on it, while I watched. The only thing I cant figure out is the tubes. They are ECC88, but state "USSR" on them and have what looks like "OTK1" on them. Can't find anything about them on tubeworld.com or the likes.

Any of you tube guru's got any ideas?

EDIT - I mean about the manufacture - I can find plenty on ECC88 (am not a total tard!) - sorry about edit!

When I was at Reeses, I heard my first SD/A-490t (and a 390t, too). I must say, they sound very nice, but it was hard to tell if it was the players, the Sunfire Vacuum Tube preamp (or the C-19), the Silver 9ts (or 7ts), or the bi-amped Platinums. The one thing I can say about the 490t is that it's a bit more finicky than current players. And, the 390t allows the disks to slide around in the carousel if you move it!

I think if you are pairing the 490t with solid state gear, you'll be very happy.

ummm, just a guess, they are ECC88 Russian tubes?
alot of tubes are made in Russia.

Yeah - great find, however - I had to pay a price to the Carver Gods!! My tranny went in my car - and she ain't worth fixin. Just paid off the other car though, so will be doin the 1 car deal for a little bit. Then, back to some kind of car payment - unfortunately.

Oh well - the price to pay for great audio gear!!!

The reason you see a lot of Russian and Chinese tubes is that they haven't figured out the transistor yet. They can make copies, but they don't understand them. They really understand tubes, and have a lot of cheap labor to make them. Plus, they're still used in their spacecraft.

Okay - I am really torn. I was liking the sound of vinyl again, now I am finding new feeling for my CD collection. Definitely a much nicer sound than I had experienced before. And me likey lots!!!
