You NEED to pull them out about 2 feet & try them away from the wall. You'll be surprised~
Place your listening position further back & closer to the back wall. The book Jerry (Jag) has on roadshow, "Get Better Sound" says (& Bob concurs) that your speakers need to be out away from the wall & you should be in the "dead" end of the room, with the speakers in the "live" end. Also, it says the first thing to do is remove ANYTHING that is between the speakers (TV, fish tank, etc.) as this will affect the sound. The author placed his audio gear on the side of his listening position (not very WAF friendly!).
