PDR System Updates

Been doing a little DIY and shopping in the last few months,
heres some updated pics.

Those OBs look fantastic Perry, but are they look like subs and not like the full range speakers I thought they were.

Look again at the picture of the back of the top driver....
Notice the double magnet structure.....Under the dust cover of the 12"
hides the tweeter. The back void under the top driver (angled area)is where the cross over
and the rear firing (second) tweeter will be.
Since this is a new design not many people have heard them yet,
but from the few that have they are saying the dynamics are incredible,
kick drum is amazing and oddly enough most are comparing the
sound to electrostatics. Its a big leap to jump into DIY projects like
this, unheard, but I've learned to trust the opinions of SOME peoples reviews.
When I purchased my array kit there was no way that I could of imagined them
sounding that nice for the price I paid.....I was floored.....$2500 USD took me
to a level that $10k CND couldnt of got me close to. The designer of these
is much better known, has numerous awards for x-over design in some pretty high
end named boxes, he says this is one of his best hes done.
Guess I'll find out next weekend.. .. the cost of the kit was just
under 2k US so either way not a huge loss...

Read a post by Gary a few days ago about room treatments that gave me a kick in the ass to start mine.
Managed to get four panels built, but because of the rain the bass traps will have to wait.
Have dedicated room that I put together over the winter, it was pretty live, the panels seem to help
focus the vocals and instruments. The one on the floor behind the gear has to go on the ceiling...
will get it up once the bass traps are built.

Its a nice improvement....should of done it sooner.
Have to get somekind of gear stand together.....the coffe table has to go.

Lookin real good. Have not got my ears on a set of Super V's OBs yet. A man can never have too much audio equipment is my approach.

Yes, met Danny Richie at the Axpona show in Atlanta. Super nice guy and very humble. I can tell from speaking with him, he is very knowledgable and well respected in the industry. He had those Carnegie's sounding real nice. The room treatments were the best of the show, no doubt about it.

Keep us posted as things progress.

Tinpan....those are a couple of dual subs that Rick from Selah designed for me. They go with the arrays. I was trying them with my OBs as per Geddes.....The OB woofers just dont load the room like box subs.....so there they sit till I get the bass traps done....too heavy to move downstairs until I have a good reason. Tube amp is sitting on top of the right one....GF A-88

Don.....I'll keep the updates comming....but I'm out of town for the next 2 weeks, not much is gonna happen. I am meeting Danny this fall at RMAF....looking forward to it.....I think he bringing a new design this yr....OB arrays I believe.

Made quite a bit of headway on my room on my time back at home last weekend. Managed to get the bass traps built, hung the ceiling absorber
and built what is called a "poly" diffuser for the front of the rooms.
I was a bit skeptical on the poly but a few people with dipoles like mine
have said they have had great results with them.....so I thought for the
$25 in material I'd give it a shot. Glad I did, it really adds depth to the soundstage....a lot, and brings back a "sparkle" that I thought the absorbtion panels may have stole.
The bass traps were made by halving 12" sono tubes, using 1x4 slats to seperate and then cutting large holes down the sonotube length. They were then covered in the same speaker grill cloth that is on the panels.
The room is really sounding great now,
and looks much more the way I wanted. The tree wall sticker is from Walmart
and my daughter and I had a lot of fun applying it.
Next up will be a stand for the Sunfire gear thats currently on the floor, and
soome kind of CD rack.
