System Update-Long Absence

Post by Rick Price » Mon Jan 19, 2015 11:05 am

Hi folks,

I just happened by and saw the "Reunification" messages. It makes me wonder what the fuss was about, but I'll just assume that it's still there to be found and if I need to know badly enough, I'll do the research on my own and not "reinfect" anything.

Here's my gear, spread across several systems. It does not include gear I've sold, traded or have in storage, which would be sort of time consuming to list. I've been a Carver Loyalist since the mid eighties.

Main System
Sunfire Signature Stereo
Sunfire Cinema Grand Signature
Carver A-760x
Carver A-220
Sunfire CRS3C Center Channel Ribbon Speaker
Carver Amazing Plat III's (restored)-the last time I posted was to get much valued advice on the crossovers, I performed some slight modifications on mine....long story there.....)
Polk SDA2B's (rear) non-invasively rewired to use all drivers in standard stereo.
Polk Jr.'s (front F/X)
4 (14Hz -3db in room) Stereo Integrity D2 Subwoofers in custom enclosures

Gotta love those classic Pioneer Monster Silver Series Receivers from the 70's. =D> From an owner/lover of a SX-1250. Also, the Dragon was no slouch as far as the cassette medium goes. 8) Brings back College Day memories.

Welcome back.

Thanks, Kingman.

Silver 7's? Sweeeeet....... =D>

I sweated BULLETS when MD cleared out those Bob Carver monoblocks last year......the price was right.......but I can't really justify indulging my Audiophilia Nervosa anymore. I turn it on, and everything's pretty much like I want it....

Besides, ambient heat's a big enough issue in my listening room as it is.....lol!

I'll try to get some pics up before too long..

Thanks, Kindly to everyone. LIke many of us, I did it one small piece at a time over many years. My health (I posted about it before) has been problematic (the issues aren't going away, I've fought it to a standstill) but there's still a LOT of gear and music to listen to and enjoy!

Re: The Subwoofage: The Stereo Integrity guys are friends of mine. There's a long story there, too. The proprietor's Dad is a former private student (briefly, so was the proprietor, when he was in school) and they came over to my home place in the early '90's and saw a set of 15" C-V Car Subs mounted in a sealed BSR DAK sub box. It sounded good, at least as an affordable alternative to what was available elsewhere at the time. I think that planted the seed. The Lemons' started buying speaker design software and took my garage kludge concept and really went much farther than I'd have thought possible. I support their products, as their business venture gives many, I'm just one of them, an affordable alternative to SW options that I'd have never otherwise afforded.
The enclosures we settled on, were takeoffs on the Hsu/SVS Cylindrical design. (There was a DIY article about it in Stereophile right BEFORE the first Hsu hit the market...) They're larger and shorter. I had to tweak them myself in order for them to support weight beyond their "coffee table" late '90's original parameters. (I have the SDA-2B's on one set and two sets of HPM-900's on the others, the fasteners holding the bottom plate in turned loose once......so I had to go back and screw, glue and insert wood wedges on the walls.) I use Sorbothane mats to keep the speakers stationary, and to keep the imaging from blurring. I hadn't thought about pics, but I'll try to get a few together. Most of the ones I have are old now. I'll get back with you......later!!
