New receiver from the wife and kid

Post by cring08 » Tue Aug 18, 2015 7:58 pm

Jess and Taylor bought me a new Onkyo TX-NR545 receiver for my Bday last month.
This thing has great new built in options, such as Sirius, Wifi, bluetooth, multiple Hdmi, usb inputs, etc...
My only issue is, I really want to use this in my main system, but there is no way to wire as a preamp, and I have to use the Sunfire 300x2 to push my Amazings.

Any suggestions?

there is no pre/ main jacks on the back? some receivers have that option! :-k I looked it up Chris, that model has Analog Pre-Outs so you can hook your sunfire to it & use your Amazings

Looks like the Zone 2 might be a viable option to feeding a second amp. Can't tell if it'd have volume control though. If not you'd have to use something else for that. The difficulty is simple use for others usually. Seperate full surround set of speakers for "normal" use maybe?

Another lesser option would be to use something to decode from the HDMI. If you have a TV with HDMI that happens to have some kind of audio out function you might figure a way to use that.

Headphone output with a special cable might be another slightly weird way.

Kind of surprised it doesn't look like it has a digital out. Guess too many folks don't do that to include it.

A lot of modern features it looks like. Good luck finding something that works out!

Yeah, the first thing I tried was zone two, but no volume control.

I hate to ask a stupid question, but no way to use the main speakers out through another device?

I have the receiver hooked direct to the Amazings now, and they sound ok, but definately lack the full sound and balls.

Seems strange to have all the other bells and whistles, but missing some basics.

Bob made an adapter for the speaker level dropped down to line level. What was that? And short of finding one of those today, doesn't someone else make one now? The question with that is will it sound better done that way. I'd think somewhat. You then get the receiver distortion, but the adapter will be providing very little load and therefore should have very little distortion added.

That type of thing might make it all more user friendly than trying a secondary volume control solution.

Congrats on the new Receiver! If it does not have factory pre-outs for the amp you can use this:

Chris I recently acquired a Carver CM-1090 integrated amp and I'm using the Z-1 coupler Jesse shared the link to. That's the ticket!!!
In reality, it only matters what it sounds like to YOU!!!

The Z1 is a pair of transformers, to adapt impedances. Same trick is used in all the True Subs.

Well, it works great!

Got all the modern bells and whistles on the Onkyo, and the power of the Sunfire!

Anyone want to buy a TGP-IV?

Well, I should have known better.

The Onkyo now has no front channel power outs.

My 300x2 has power, but no output.

I am ready to fucking scream.

Time to rip it all apart tomorrow.

I hope to god my amp or speakers arent damaged.

What a bad night. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)
