NEW TOY

Post by Snoop65 » Sat Apr 08, 2017 8:25 pm

Hello everyone! I just retired my 390t cd player from the main system and replaced it with a Cayin CDT-17 . Cayin is built like a tank (it weighs almost 40 pounds!) and uses four 6DJ8 's.

The second picture is a Web pic, I didn't open mine up yet. Now for the sound, ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! Comparing it to the 390t, it is a lot more detailed digging deeper into the music, it has much better highs and low end and a greater soundstage. It is also less forward. It came with Genelex Gold Lion 6922's. The Cayin sounds so good with them I haven't been tempted to roll tubes. Here are the specs,

two 24-bit/192kHz DAC (PCM 1792 Burr-Brown chip) in a true full-balanced design. Full tube output (Russian 6922 Electro Harmonix tubes); digital, optical, balance (AES/EBU) output; a Philips CD7II transport; an independent power supply to analog, digital circuit; high-end, specially-designed transformers; As in all Cayin products an aluminum/stainless steel faceplate, chassis and a remote control.

Type
Full-function CD Player
Transport Mechanism
Philips CD7II
DAC
(2) 24-bit/192kHz DAC (PCM 1792 Burr-Brown chip)
Outputs (Gold Plated)
(1) pair RCA
(1) pair Balanced XLR
Digital Outputs
XLR, Optical & RCA
"
disc transport mechanism sited in a separated sub enclosure/chamber designed to provide a degree of isolation from external vibration, light and ingress of dust – the player’s disc loading tray closing automatically if left open for more than a minute. The circuitry is laid out neatly on one multi-layered printed circuit board populated with many high quality components of the type more often reserved for extremely expensive high-end products. Pricey Japanese Nichicon electrolytic capacitors are in abundance, output coupling capacitors are the well-respected German-made Wima types bypassed with smaller value Realcaps, with more Realcaps littered about the circuit in places that the designers must have deemed critical for sound quality."

"much of the player’s 16kg weight can be attributed to its two potted toroidal power supply transformers – individual transformers for the digital and analogue sections. Digital processing is achieved with two Burr-Brown PCM1792 (24-bit/192kHz capable) digital-to-analogue converters operating in balanced mode"

The remote is a nice solid chunk of aluminum. I'm a real happy camper. :D :D :D

I got two family trips planned already fellas. I might be able to sneak down for a Saturday and Sunday visit though. I'm really enjoying the new cd player, I have going through my cd collection all weekend. I have been hearing things I have never heard and things I have heard are clearer and more separated from the other instruments. The bass and highs are amazing. It's not quite as warm sounding as the 390t but that could be a tube thing. I'm really enjoying the music! \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

"Might"?

Come on now, you can do better than that! Now I'm gonna have to call and get all up in your "You-know-what"! Come on man......it's been long enough.

Take the plunge.

So what weekend can we expect to see you? (free lodging)

Ok, I have been on the couch since this morning enjoying the Cayin and I am absolutely loving it! I can't remember the last time I listened to CD's all day. It's 5:14 now and my tube bug just bit me! (Stop laughing Eric!!!) So I went to my stash to see if I had 4 Amperex PQ 6922's and I found 4 Siemens CCA's!!! Let the games begin!!! \:D/ \:D/ :D 8)
