Mutec MC3 + USB

Post by Miko1971 » Fri Apr 21, 2017 7:25 pm

Holy Crap!! the sonic leap my system just took is real and shocking! This thing is awesome!!! Wow.... I need to adjust my Speakers to take advantage of this. If anyone is running a PC with USB out to a DAC, then you really need to check this out. I thought the Singer was pretty good.. This is many, many levels past that.

I'm using a WIreworld Silver Starlight USB cable, Then a Gutwire Synchrony 2 SE AES/EBU cable out to my Tascam. I'm waiting for my new RCA cables to arrive.

For example, I'm listing to Fleetwood Mac "Family Man" from Tango in the night @ 192/32 Up-sampled from the remastered 96/24 album.

The space and definition is incredible. I am listening to it like it's the first time. The mid range leanness i thought was because i wasn't dialing in my crossover correctly is gone. There is real weight and body now. My SoundLabs are absolutely humming....

And, from all that I've read..you can get it even better by cascading multiple units together.

Miko

I have tried the Mutec MC3 and the Berkeley Alpha USB between my Mac Mini and my Devialet 440PRO
both times using Audioquest Diamond USB & Audience SE AES/EUB cables.

I found the Mutec to be better in my system than the Berkeley at half the price.

I did not keep any of them, as I changed out the Mac Mini to an Aurender N100H and we found (3 people)
the Mutec and the Berkeley made a very, very little change not worth the cost of keeping any of them.

I was afraid of that. I have been keeping my eyeballs peeled for an Aurender S10. They discontinued that model and i don't know why..but they are an absolute steal on the used market. I'm using a standard HP PC and this is where the Mutec can really do it's thing.

Take care!!

I added another MC3USB to my system and it helped! I'm going to get adding them and see how it goes. An article from Germany had a guy stack 4 and he thought that was the practical limit. For a all digital system with a standard PC, i think it sounds great!!

I was using the Wyred4Sound USB reclocker for a while on my Auralic Aries, and it was a major improvement. I can't imagine daisy-chaining a bunch of them together would benefit anything other than an over-processed signal. Then again, I prefer keeping my signal chain as simple and clean as possible.

It isn't a process, more like a stripping and filtering of the signal. Each successive device has less work to do and so on. I haven't fully explored this concept to it's fullest. My next step is a fourth mc3 and then tying everything together with the Mutec Ref 10 Master Word Clock.

One day i'm dragging this crap to Carver Fest i swear!!!

Yeah, it's the same thing people were doing with the Wyred4Sound USB reclockers and other similar units. I just couldn't see it.

As they say, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.
