System Updates

Okay, if anyone has looked at my signature, I have added another garage sale find to my system,. A Phillips CDR 775 dual tray CD Burner - ($20 - thank you very much) :D :D . I have read that people have had some issues with these units, but I have already burned 4 or 5 discs without any problems. I did have one CD the burned and played okay on the Phillips unit, but wouldn't work on my TL-3300, but worked in my TL-3200. Go figure!

I have also acquired off epray a Realistic APM-500, audio power meter. Thought it looked cool (I like the LED's) and was interested to see if it would give me a feel as to how much power I was actually using at any given time. Not sure about the accuracy of it, but what the heck.

I am going to possibly make some more changes in the near future, and am going to most likely get rid of my TL-3200. I will post that under a separate listing in the Marketplace forum, when I can stop crying about it. (I just don't use it, as I prefer the TL-3300). I may even part with one of the tape decks also. (That one may not happen at all, depending on the direction that I take with the rig.) So here is my setup, after my move from the old computer room to the den. (I'll snap a picture later of the whole room - right now full of crud - sold some golf clubs for my brother in-law and have boxes of stuff all over waiting to ship out.)

I also have been acquiring a bunch of vintage vinyl. Bought 26 albums at a garage sale for $0.50 each, and my step father-in law just gave me close to 100 albums - (lots of great stuff too - no crap!!). Now I have to find a place to store all of it!! Oh such a dilema :)

Re: System Updates

Nice finds icravcarver, especially the APM-500! That unit was highly regarded in its day winning rave reviews in several audio publications for its dead nuts accuracy when running with an 8 ohm load. I had half a dozen of them for my mobile DJ rigs and they started paying for themselves the very first week by allowing me to monitor how much power each amp was delivering to the speakers and when it was being overdriven and prevented countless tweeter burnouts, If ever you want to get rid of it, I'll buy it off of you no questions asked!

As for your CD burner, that Philips unit seems to be picky about the brand of CD-Rs that you use. Look for brands that have are thicker than normal (more plastic on the back of the disk) or that are specifically designed for Audio use (most brands are general purpose). Those should play on anything.

icravcarver,

I have the same Phillips CDR 775 and have had no issues with it. Naturally it likes Phillips cdr's but I find Memorex music cdr's work great on this unit.

I got one of those Realistic APM-500, audio power meter as well.....I've had it for years. Cool little piece of equipment.

Enjoy.

Yes....I have a set of 901's and in the right room they sound great...unfortunately my living room isn't one of them. LOL I picked them up at a yard sale a couple of years back for $35 including the stands....they were only a few years ago at that time....hard to past up a deal like that.

PS...thanks for the warm welcome.
