A C-2/M-500t combo will be a great center for a small starter system. The C-2 is a VERY clean-sounding preamp, and although it lacks most of the "bells and whistles" in terms of tone adjustment and Sonic Holography that the C-1 has, it is a very sweet-sounding "purist" preamp. The M-200t is a surprisingly powerful amp despite it's small size, and if you are driving very efficient speakers (like small bookshelves, or horn speakers like the Klipsch's you mentioned) it should do just fine.
Make sure you don't skimp on cables though. Get some decent speaker cables, but remember, the M-200t has those stupid little "spring clip" type speaker connections, so at least on the amp end of your speaker cables, you should either have bare (or lightly tinned) wire or pins--bananas or spades will not work with the M-200t...
The Klipsch Forte is a very nice speaker--plenty of bass, and VERY smooth mids and highs, and at 98dB efficiency, it should be very happy being driven by an M-500t, even to relatively loud levels.
The Forte's are HEAVY speakers though--which is a good thing. They are a bear to move around, but they are pretty much rock-solid as far as being anti-resonant cabinets. They are a little big, but not as big as some of the big Polks or Martin Logans. I think they'd make a GREAT match to the Carver combo you're getting.
Please keep us posted, and post some pictures when you get everything put together!
