I'm curious, why do you have two pre's? I see a CT-7 and the C-16. Is one of them not hooked up?

Yes, the CT-7 isn't hooked up right now, I'll use it somewhere !? lol

The M.1 is going out for a tune up next month. I bought them both new 20+? years ago so she's due. (started to hear a little static in the left channel.)

Yup, that's a definite sign that a tune up is in order. Question for ya'. Do you have any issues with the RCA jackets coming off on the back of the CT-7? When I had mine, two or three of them were loose.

Nope, they all seem fine. She still sounds great but the C-16 has a much better sound I think. More realistic. It took a few days to get used to it after listening to the CT-7 all these years.
I miss the remote volume control though.

I hear ya' but the one thing I have always noticed....

Convenience = compromise in sound.

Not always Treitz, F1's Joule pre and the Sunfire tube pre's had remotes and you'd be hard pressed to find better sounding units.

Well, there are exceptions of course. I can say fo' sho' that the CT-7's sound was compromised when compared to the C-16. I'm sure it's not the "remotes" fault, but you get what I'm saying.

The C-16 was the first Carver preamp that WOW'd me. I'm sure your using the "tube" outputs. In my experience they are much superior sounding to the SS outputs (#2). Amazing what Bob did with a few resistors!

After looking at the pic I know why I love all the BOB stuff...FN GREAT LOOKIN STUFF!!!
