ViperZ's Carver stuff

I finally got my Carver gear together for a 2.1 setup:

- Carver TFM-24 amplifier
- Carver C-1 holography preamplifier
- Magneplanar Magnepan MG-II planar speakers
- Velodyne ULD-15 subwoofer
- Dual 1228 TT

I also have Carver CT-28v, which I have no use for at this point... and looking at getting M-400t cube for a new project...

Rock on Viper! How do you like the sound? Does that combo work out pretty good?

To be honest, I still need more time to listen... When we were testing/tuning the TFM-24, we used CT-28v, and those two sounded very nice together.

I know, C-1 has been praised a lot, but I haven't listened to it enough to make a judgment. Also, if/when I'll get a cube, I'll play with C-1/M-400t combination, but right now M-400 is slated for the subwoofer duty. In case if it will sound too get, I may downgrade TFM-24 to the sub .

I am currently re-finishing the frames for Maggies (after rebuilding tweeters, replacing crossover capacitors with Solens and installing new socks), that's why I only listened to them with C-1 for a bit.

Here is a pic of ULD-15 in the StudioLab setup:
- rebuilt the box (brand new bottom 3/4" MDF plate, mahogany finish)
- replaced speaker surround
- completely replaced all electrolytic capacitors in the amplifier (power supply and signal path).

ULD-15 is on the left of the StudioLab sub:

I think I'll finish the Maggies frames in mahogany too, to match the Velodyne.

Nah, it's there just for photos . At that time I had StudioLab sub hooked up instead of the Velodyne, so Velo was being used as a stand for the TT. The problem with hooking up the StudioLab sub to TFM-24 (each driver in the sub is separate and is 4 Ohms ) - you see that 32" LCD sitting on top of the sub? Well, it wanted to jump off a few times...

Great to see your set up...I'm thinking those Maggies could use some additional juice...the 24 is nice, but you can never have enough power for ribbons!

Martin Logan's top-end sub, the Depth-i, is so anti-resonant, that you can play performance-level orchestal music through it, and set a nickel on-edge on the top, and it won't move...

When I heard a dealer say this, I called "shenanigans", and thought it was COMPLETE BS, but then he did it. That thing would rock the house, was tight-musical, and accurate as heck, and that nickel just stood there, on top of the Depth, not even so much as a wobble. Blew my mind...

No ribbons in my maggies These are model MG-II: both, tweeter and mid are on the same panel.
