vertically bi-amp or run as monoblocks?

Post by frenchguy » Sat Oct 07, 2017 10:17 pm

I would like some opinions on using my tfm 42 amps vertically bi-amped or use them in mono block mode, which would sound better or no difference? I used to vertically bi-amp my Carver AL3 speakers using my 2 tfm 42 amps & it sounded great! each amp driving each speaker so each amp sees the same load! 1 channel of each amp on a ribbon & other channel on woofer!

I now have another pair of Carver Amazing Silvers & would like to use my 2 tfm 42 amps again. should I modify my Amazing silvers with 2 sets of binding posts,so they are bi-ampable like my AL3,s were, or should I run my tfm 42 amps in monoblock mode getting 1000 wpc vs 500 wpc @ 4ohms bi-amped?
which way do you guys think would produce the best sound or do you think there would be no difference in sound quality?? let me know your thoughts guys, thanks, frenchguy

Hey Al,.....I'm going to take a hint from Bob and say:

"Try it and see which you like better".

Bi-amped, I would say; the total wattage per speaker is the same but you reduce the amount of audio signal that each amp section needs to process. When I went to a bi-amped configuration on mine the clarity increased. Bridged mono mode doubles the THD of the output, so if you can it is better to bi-amp.
