Welcome back.
That is funny as you were here before me.

How many posts you have here are important. That should not be the case - and I would vote to do away with the count.

There are Millions of readers here, :-" and if you are really up on a topic and have 17 posts - someone like me who might lay in bed all day tomorrow has more clout. Well, not me actually as I have no clout here. ](*,) . Others with 69K posts here who might know less than you on many issues - rule.

On the plus side, just welcome every new member who just found us and will never post here again. In no time you will have a lot of clout unless like me you post on topics from a new angle.

He got the easy ones. I am probably the only one here who can help you with the others.
Before I post on the others, need to think back and maybe research my notes a little.

I've tried digging around about the differences between the original Amazings and the Platinums and didn't find much here. I was told however by the powers that be, that everything is different about the 2 except the plank of wood that holds everything together. Also, the Amazings are supposed to be a bear to power, Silver 7ts, TFM-75 or 600x2 seems to be an additional requirement. As far as sound differences, I've yet to read anything on that. I would have to assume that the newer, improved versions with higher efficiency, 60" ribbons, cone drivers and redesigned crossovers would have to sound a lot better. If nothing else, easier to drive. From what I've been able to gather, my advice would be to sell the Amazings and buy Platinums. Scarabeo has a beautiful, fully restored pair for sale at $850 for the pair. I already know exactly how far away he is and how much it would cost me to make the trip but haven't talked myself into it yet. :D

Well, if you look at the schematics, you'll find that the 30" ribbons are ¾Ω each. In series they add to 1½Ω! The impedance of a 60 ribbon is 4.6Ω as shown below.

That shows you how much harder the Originals are to drive.

I know when we were driving the "Wall of Sound" @ CF 2007, the Originals were WAAAAAY down when the AL-IIIs & Plats were singing~

Just sayin'.....

Thanks for the graph and explanation but that still doesn't offer any insight to the sound quality differences. Assuming you had a Sunfire 600x2 driver both sets, which would sound better? Would they sound the same? Similiar? Thanks! :D

Well, physics would dictate the longer ribbon would move more air. Furthermore, being easier to drive, your amps would have more headroom, leading to better dynamics. But, I've never heard Originals, only Plats.

I've heard both, and I think Plats sound better. The difference isn't huge, but it is noticeable to me. The Plats have a better sound stage and smoother response throughout the frequency range. They also have the added benefit of being much easier to drive.
