WTB: Carver HR-772 receiver

Hello, I am looking to buy a Carver HR-772 receiver after I foolishly sold mine recently.

Must be in 100% working condition and cosmetically in very good + or better condition (to match my pristine SD/A-490t and TD-1700).

A working remote would be nice, but is not a deal breaker if there is no remote (more interested in the HR-772 being as nice as possible).

I have decided to go with as much of a "Carver" system as I can and will use the HR-772 as a preamp/tuner.

Will also be looking for an a-760x amp (so would sell the Sunfire 300 x 2) and a 390t CD changer to add to the system.

Please PM me if you have a HR-772, any leads would be appreciated.

Thank you.
My office (and only) system:
Sunfire Ultimate Receiver (thanks jjptkd!)
Sunfire Theater Grand Processor (with original remote!)
Carver TD-1770
Klipsch Chorus II's
Sony CA70ES 5-disc changer
Sony SACD 5-disc changer

Two things. I think it would be a mistake to sell the Sunfire 300x2 for an A-760x.
Second, why would you want an HR-772 to use as a tuner/preamp (i.e., not use the amps). If you need a tuner/preamp, why not get a tuner/preamp like a CT-7?
It should sound like it isn't there!

I'd like to go to as much as possible to a "Carver" branded amp to match the 490t, TD-1700, and whatever I end up with as a preamp. Also, I want to get an amp with gain controls, which the 760x has, so when running the Klipsch Chorus II's I have more usable range with the volume control. The combination of Sunfire amp and Chorus speakers gets really loud really quickly. I just sold a pair of Magnepan 2.7's (the 2.7's being the reason I bought the Sunfire) which, efficiency wise, are on the other end of the scale. If I ever get back into Maggies, I believe the 760x will do a decent job on them (with the gains cranked back up!).

The CT-7 would be my other preamp consideration.

I like the HR-772 because it has 6 audio inputs (plus phono) vs 5 (plus phono) on the CT-7. I can use every input I can get.

It has a 5-band tone control vs 3 on the CT-7 (maybe won't matter, but nice to know it's there).

The HR-772 has a larger volume knob which I feel gives me a finer volume adjustment by hand vs the small one on the CT-7, again usefull with the Chorus's.

It may be my imagination, but I think the display characters on the 772 are a bit larger then the CT-7. The total display area is larger so everything's not so cramped on the 772. Older eyes, you know.

I had the HR-772 running the Maggies previously as a preamp and thought it did a decent job, I had no complaints.

Good talking with you BillD.

Thanks.

Yeah, if I wasn't a Carver fan (of Mr. Carver's designs, applications and overall approach to audio) I could think of other amps/preamps etc that might, as a practical point, be better overall choices, but that's the price you pay for this thing you call OCCD.

Thanks.

I was also on his website yesterday but did not see a 772. I'll contact him and at least let him know I'm looking for one.
