Aluminum will make them more modern. Wood in modern equipment looks weird to me, unless you want to go for the "retro" look. You clearly aren't trying to disguise them as not power amps, with the exposed tubes, and the etched acrylic is very modern.
It should sound like it isn't there!

That is kind of my thought now as well. If I had stayed true to the retro-look of Bob's original design, the wood would be an elegant touch. The most striking
feature of the amp is the granite work and the transformer cover. Wood would just be another element and would get lost in the overall design. Aluminum it is...

I have to agree with the Mrs. Heavy Brushed Aluminum sides will look better. O:)
Use 6061 or higher series. It's much less apt to corrosion. :)

some updated pics... and a huge thank you to Wardsweb for his contribution to the project. He made the aluminum sideplates for me, and was rude enough to not even let me pay for them! :x I don't know why we allow such conduct on this forum , but that's not my call to make. :-" :-"   I will simply allow my displeasure to show here by saying a big THANKS to you Wardsweb for your immeasurable kindness. =D> =D> 8)

Those would look so good on my Audio Rack!!!

I was thinking about these today and hoping to Hear them in person. It would be so fun to ear a set without a salesman poking at your wallet!

Very Nice John!! Your journey to this point making those amps reminds me of that old Grateful Dead song "Truckin.
"What a long strange trip it's been"! But you are finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Congrats on a wonderful job. Glad to hear you and the amps made it out to the Left Coast in good shape.
