Re: Carver "Silver Four" Monoblock project

I can't download them from my camera phone because I am to cheap to buy the proper cable. #-o :-" I will take some hi-res tommorow with the camera and get them posted. The chassis are back from being painted in primer and black on the rear panel. I am having the wood cut for the side panels next week, but I will be finishing that myself. It will be nice to have all the pieces in one place so that I can start wiring them up. \:D/

Simple...take pics with your phone and email (if you can) them to yourself and then save them to your pc.

I wish I could, but I don't have a phone that supports it. I refuse to pay AT$T more money than I have to.

Re: Carver "Silver Four" Monoblock project

Couple questions....

The granite you are using, how thick is it, and where are you planning on using it?

From what I have read, you are using it as the top surface of the amplifier, where the tubes stick out of ??
If that's correct, you may want to think about this a little more...

Have you ever put your hand on the west side of a stone wall after the sun has set... ?
Granite will act like a massive isolator, and will hold the heat, like a brick oven if the tubes are close to it.

The Silver-7 tube chassis' get HOT, and they are ventilated very well, and are made of very thin sheet metal.
If you were to throw a chunk of 1/2" thick granite on top, it will be a flat-top-skillet in 20-30 minutes.

For fun, my father and I placed a cast iron frying pan on top of a Silver-7, and actually cooked an egg a few months ago.

Just a little food for though.

Re: Carver "Silver Four" Monoblock project

The granite is only 3/8th of an inch thick, and the glass bodies of the tubes will all be fully exposed. and unimpeded in any way. I would think that 14 tubes will get much hotter than 6.

Re: Carver "Silver Four" Monoblock project

They are a long way from making any sound, but they already look so good that I can imagine them playing already.

will the granite add anything to the performance of the amp other than weight and bling?

I doubt it, though it may help as far as reducing any unwanted vibrations.

Very true. This should make certain the tubes do the talking and not the flimsy aluminum chassis. :D
