The absolute BEST barbeque sauce EVER!!!

Every once in a while in life, one stumbles across a slice of heaven here on Earth. I happened to have been lucky enough to find such a slice. For my birthday this year, my friends, wife and I went to the cabins where CF is held. I brought my typical big slab's-o-meat with me for some good cookin'. One night we wanted to cook up some pork butt. It was an 8 pound chunk of meat that we were gonna cook up on the barbie'.

We went to a store early in the day and it was one of Bryson Cities worst hole in the wall dump of a store. I wanted some kind of BBQ sauce to go with the pork and I saw the cheap $1.00 kinds in the isles and I knew I didn't want that crap but that's all they had......until I went to the back of the store near the meat section and stumbled across this "Old Mule" BBQ sauce. "Hmmm", I thought. "We'll give this a whirl". It was made right here in the mountains of NC by a small family business, so it couldn't be that bad, right?

Got back to the cabin and applied salt and pepper to the outside of the pork and seared the outside before cooking it on the grill for about 4 or 5 hours. We pulled the pork and added just a 1/4 jar of the "Old Mule" to the pulled pork. Oh my dear Lord Jesus, was that the BEST pork I have ever had the pleasure to taste. Hands down, with nothing even coming close to it, this was now my reference recipe.

I wanted to share this rare slice of heaven with you all and I strongly urge you to get some. I found out this morning that they have a website to where you can order some online while slow cooking another pork butt [don't have a grill at the house at the moment].

One night at CF, I will cook this exact recipe for the gang. Trust me, you WILL be looking forward to it. *5*

Re: The absolute BEST barbeque sauce EVER!!!

Thanks for the tip.

I will order a couple of jars and let you know my comments.

In the meantime, if you are looking for a nice slow cooker/grill, check out www.komodokamado.com. I purchased one of these (23" model) about 8 months ago and love it. I also have a green egg (www.biggreenegg.com) and love it as much. My Green Egg is going on 10 years old with no problems.

Although there is a big price difference, they are both nice toys to play with on the weekends or when time permits.

Thanks again for the tip,

Chris

Re: The absolute BEST barbeque sauce EVER!!!

Oh, sorry. Half kick original. As for the website and how to order? I dunno. Never used it before but I only have 1/2 a jar left, so I'll be ordering some soon. I think I'm gonna order some of the half kick and the full kick to see which one I prefer.

Toucanet, thanks back a'cha for the links on the grills. Those look like they could cook some really good food.

Got it!

Oh, I just went to the website. Here's what you do.

"When ordering, please enter into the comment section which flavor you are wanting. You can mix and match as you like. If no comments are entered, we will assume you want to stick with our Original Flavor!"

Apparently, these are the 4 flavors that they have;
Full Kick
Half Kick
No Kick*
Mustard based

*Available when labels come in.

Re: The absolute BEST barbeque sauce EVER!!!

This is on subject but do any of you have any "smoking" tips when it comes to food? I say food because I have become to know this group just alittle and can just imagine all the wisecracks.

I'm using a gas grill at the moment. I know they have little boxes to put chips in and you could wrap the chips in foil but I'm looking for a more pronounced way. I'd like to make some beef and pork brisket (slow cook and smoke them). I can grill pretty good but have never ventured into the smoking department. Am I better off just buying a smoker and then grilling?

Since summertime will soon be upon us, who would like to share some recipes and tips.

I use lump charcoal for low and slow. For reviews of lump charcoal, check out http://www.nakedwhiz.com. No porn, just an interesting website name. Also, check out the forums for the two website I posted above; they have some very good information for tips and techniques.

There are also gadgets that can help regulate your smoker's internal temperature 9such as the pitminder).

I'm wrapping up smoking two turkeys in two separate Komodos (mine and neighbor's).

Good luck.

Re: The absolute BEST barbeque sauce EVER!!!

Those look real good. Enjoy.

Kingman, try this link to see what sizes/quantities they offer.....
https://www.oldmule.com/store/index.php?cPath=23

Copied from another section of their website which isn't the most user friendly of sites...
"About our flavors:

Old Mule Mustard Sauce is a tangy, tasty sauce that will surely delight anyone who loves mustard. We have had customers tell us they love this better than our Original!

"Full Kick" is a bit more spicy and the kick sneaks up on you. Original is our "Half Kick" and when we can get new labels for our "Sissy" (No Kick) sauce, we will add that to the website as well!"

I'm guessing that at some point during the checkout that there will be a comment section. Just say which flavor you want in there. You could also just fax the order in or give them a call. Apparently, they accept calls on the weekends [provided they are at home]. It's a small, family ran business tucked into the mountains where technology still won't be around for decades to come, I'm sure, so the conveniences and smooth as silk/user friendly websites we normally have with bigger corporations just won't be there.

Regardless, you are gonna LOVE this stuff.

My other children love to linger on the handles when the lids are down.

I usually post my photos on Komodo's forum. They have very good tips on their blogs.

I tooled around the site for a stint earlier on today but didn't see the cost of one of bad boys. What's a medium size one run?
