Re: ALS 53 Hour Count Down to Demo

Well, 5 and a half hours into the assembly we have ONE tower finished... ](*,) ](*,)

It's going to be a LONG night AND we have to pick up Bob's guest from Massachusetts from the airport at 11:00 am.... #-o
The only thing I know about our guest is that he is a professional speaker builder.....

Will be back with picture updates a little later, we are going to the store for ibuprofen and caffeine.... Then back to work on tower 2.

I’m curious are there plans to design and install trim rings around the woofers to fill in the gaps (the area between the 2 walls around the speakers) :-k

That is an excellent question....I was wondering the same thing. And that wire is too goddamn small, James...you need to rewire with 12 gauge~

And WTF is the Play-Doh for???

Re: ALS 53 Hour Count Down to Demo

Well, taking a little break, and listening to the 1st ALS next to an AL-III.... all can say is HOLY SHIT this is going to be a truly amazing set of speakers !!!!!!

No EQ, and a single 2mF cap on the ribbons, and they already blow the AL-III away. Voices are amazing. Guitar is a little light, and symbols are a little light, but DAMN, this sound from the raw drivers ???? I could easily get used to the sound as is....
And It's only going to get better from here =D>

Now back to work, gotta finish the other one.

PS, it's all 22ga. Wire guyz. You can question Bob about it if you like.

Is it possible that he stipulated 22ga wire as a minimum requirement (I’m not saying its wrong but in my experience the general rule of thumb has always been that it’s better to have a heavier gage wire for long life). :-k

Are these going to be insulated or grounded in someway (they are aluminum and they will have power going into them and if I owned them I would get shocked as I’m lucky in that way). 8-[

Re: ALS 53 Hour Count Down to Demo

If they will take the kind of power you originally talked about (2000 watts?), I'd be inclined to use heavier wire....

@ ekog: you can't get shocked by the power coming off speaker leads unless something is very, very wrong.......or if you stick your tongue to them & crank it~ that eould be a rude awakening!

Here is a point to remember. How thick is the wire going from the speaker terminal to the speaker voice coil?
