Ribbon material for Amazing Silvers

I've read some posts and think I know the answer but.......the noob is asking anyway.

Does anyone know where or if I can purchase the ribbon material to repair my Amazing Silvers? I took them apart a few years ago and repaired the ribbons so I understand the process and mechanics involved. Instead of repairing them this time I’d like to replace the material. I know Dave can repair them but I’m a cheap B@$&*!D plus I’ve done the job before.

I'd appreciate any feedback.

bgilles1, You and I are cheap B@$&*!D I too have done the job and wonder the same info! If I dont find the material I may make my own I just want the sound to 100% match the rest of my system.
What other goodies do you have? What are wrong with your ribbons?

DaveS is the only one that has any. As of now, he is not selling the material itself.
His supply is getting low, and it costs thousands of dollars to have it made.
Your best bet is to have him repair it correctly.

That'a kinda what i figured since I haven't been able to locate any on the web.

Scarabeo - The problem started with the little fingers of a toddler. Both ribbons developed slight tears enough that there was no sound. Also the said toddler knocked one over which result in lose magnet damage but none to the toddler. I pulled them both apart glued the magnet and repair the ribbons with very thin copper tape. That has worked fine for years but recently both have started to cut out during operation.

My equipment other than the amazings are Carver 400t amp, CT-7 preamp, Carver CD player, Rotel 5-ch amp, Marantz pre-amp, sony blu-ray, Magnepan front and surround speakers, Velodyne bookshelfs, Velodyne sub, and Panasonic projector.

A lot of fun until your main speakers don't work!

I wasn't quite that bad. I only used about .5 of thin copper and no duct tape. But now that you guys mentioned it........hmmmmmm

I remember one guy using copper wire and clear packing tape.
Not a good plan at all

I once repaired a 3 inch missing portion of ribbon using foam and some speaker wire and it worked for years just fine but it loss some lower Hz so I scraped it and replaced the full ribbon. Its fun to hear these storys...

After a guy tell me this same story a few years back he said " He`s now refered to as the little bastard around here."

Don`t laugh , it`s a great "Patch Kit" for the cracks you can see,(they crack in places you can`t) but not what you would call a "Repair Kit".
Why they didn`t use copper traces, is something I`ll have to look into, maybe the oxidation factor, or the expandtion of heating copper is too great. OR just price. we all know Bob, "More bang for your buck."
