Post by Eddie » Tue Feb 23, 2010 12:49 pm

I just seen these but he say's they are plats but he doesn't show the woofers? Also it looks to me only one set of binding posts? Could these be upgraded originals! Is this anyone here? Eddie!

Gary, both upgraded originals and true plats are 4Ω. But the single binding post is a giveaway. I think plats had dual binding posts. Mark IVs went back to one, but they had pots on the crossover. So I'm guessing these are indeed upgraded originals, which BTW, IMHO, sound great.

Bill, Plats are rated 8 ohm, but are actually about 6.5 ohm.

hmmm. Well, the drivers are 3.6Ω for the ribbon and 4Ω for the woofers. So, the crossover must add a lot of impedance. IIRC, the ribbon has 72Ω in parallel with it, so that would reduce it's impedance to 3.4Ω.

Just got an email back from this guy!

Dear Eddie,

I have edited the description on E-bay to include these answers. Please reread the description, now that I have upgraded it with more information. L1839, R2339 and four 12 Inch Special "Q" HoneyComb Woofers on each side that look good tome, no foam surround problems that I can detect.

So that is a set of upgraded orignals, I hope he changed the crossover on them!
