You know what, YES. the room! the room sucked!!!!!!!!!! I brought the speakers up stairs to the living room and that room is 13X18. It sounded like a completely different speaker and much better. I brought up a few more speakers and tried them out in the living room and all of them sounded wonderful!!!! BUT, I didnt want to mess up the living room with all of my equipment so what did i do? Split the basement up and I now have a 13X18 room in the basement. Having the speakers towrds the center of the room ( the long part) 2 -3 feet from the side walls facing the 13 foot wall made one hell of a difference. The cement block room they just didnt sound good at all. I took off the bbe, tone is in bypass now on the c-19. I feel like I have new speakers. I know not everyone can just re-do a room or might not always be the case but, in mine, OMG. Then i think back to how many speakers I thought were shit and they might not have been or how much equipment I have gone through ( or have collected ) when the entire time it was the rooms fault.
Bottom line and lesson learned:
If something doesn't sound right or good, and you see a ton of outstanding reviews on it, 1, check your equipment, 2, placement, 3 the room itself.
I am still playing with them to find the best place in the room but so far, the magic sopt is about 10 feet away from the chair, 2-3 feet from the side wall, chair on the 13 foot wall about 1 foot from the wall. If i put the chair back about 4-5 inches or against the wall, the bass increases.
