Finally did it

Post by skip » Thu Oct 14, 2010 12:59 pm

Well, I risked the wrath of my lovely wife (unless I can sneak 'em in the house) and ordered new caps to rebuild one set of my Plat x-overs. Went with Solens and Sonicap Gen I to the tune of $400 plus. I'll keep Y'all posted as to the results when I get them installed. Hopefully no more magic smoke when I get in the mood to let er rip.

The woofers and ribbons come standard wired out of phase. When I replaced my woofers I kept them out of phase.

Tell her I spent $400 on caps? I'm not that brave or foolish. If she asks, I'll show her a catalog of cheap caps and let her assume that's where I got them. If she can buy a couple of hundred worth of **** to fertelize her flower beds she's got no room to complain. Please don't tell her I said that [-o<

I'll post pics when I get it opened up. I'm pretty sure they were out of phase.

Skip, are you doing anything with the resistors?

Hadn't planned to, didn't know they would degrade over time. Think I should while I'm in there? What would be a good brand to use? How about the induction coils? Those might be rather hard to find I imagine.

Skip,

How many times have you popped caps in your Plats? Your opening post kinda leads me to believe this has been a problem for you. I know about the one time at the 2008 fest, but has this been an issue for you with stock rated and branded caps?
