fuse size for als plats

just blew a fuse on one of my plats...fuse was a 4a...is this the correct size? i had my 300x2 cranking and it blew. i am surprised as the plats are rated at 1200w.

Yes, the correct fuse is a Cooper-Bussman MDQ-4, a dual element time-delay fuse.
The reason you blew it is that although your Plats can take 1200W peaks, they can't take anything like that sustained before burning up the ribbon or the voice coils in the woofers. That's why the slow blow fuse. Your amp can put out about 50V/channel before clipping. Because it's a load invariant amp, it will continue to put out that 50V no matter what the load is. Now, Ohms law say E (volts) = I (amps) ∙ R (ohms). If your load is 4Ω and your voltage is 50 at clipping, current is 12.5A at clipping.
