I sent Dynavox a money order a week ago Tuesday; they received it Friday. The 8 speakers were shipped Friday and delivered here on Maui Tuesday. The tech installed them yesterday and I'm back in heaven. Casualty: The meter light on one of the 2 Carver nines was out; when I switched them back on I now have a matched pair!
Thank you so much for your help. What can I do for you?

P.S. Will spraying with Scotchgard help prevent the edge from deteriorating?

I plan on making some woofer sections to match my magnepan MMG's that are on the way. I figured 8 free-air woofers should do the trick. I'm after that Carver Amazing "Impact" they are so famous for. I love toying around. If it doesn't work I'll toss the woofers up for sale and say goodbuy to the MMG's, it's simple and I'm sure I can come out from all this fun quite well if it all goes sour.

Ordered the recommended WP1220 woofers from Dynavox/Orevox today. Had them fax me the invoice. Ordering 6 is $35.00 each and 20.92 UPS, A Total of 230.92 from California to Washington State. Wow all 6 new for under $250.00. Wasted that much (Newfoam.com) trying to repair just 4.

When you go to mount them, be forwarned the hole centers are slightly different from the originals. Screws still fit OK, but be patient inserting them. Mount the top speaker first and solder the wires, then work your way down the stack. This will keep you from dripping solder on a cone and burning through it. The original speakers had two solder posts per speaker, the new ones will have one. I'd solder the wires together first, then solder them to the terminals. I used 12ga wire when I replaced mine, but in hindsight this is overkill and it was very difficult attaching two 12ga wires to the single post on the drivers. If I had it to do again, I'd use 18-20ga silver wire or O2 free copper for the wiring since the jumpers are only about 12" long. It will take about 50 hrs playing time before they break in properly. After that time you will be amazed at the bass those puppies put out with no enclosure.

-wiring is a very important 'mod'...and better binding posts, too

-use tinfoil as an apron...once woofs are installed and lying on it's front
