Has anyone tried a woofer 'upgrade' for either Original Amazings, Plats or Silvers? That guy that was producing the Corean countertop looking speaks with the hot babe had some nice looking woofers in his ads. Got any idea what they are? Might work with our x/overs if the right r and freqs are OK.

-mr MR, the 'cheapest' i've found were from parts-express[57.oo ea]

-'they' had 2 types [blu/red]...emulating US and Brit 'sound'

-mostly sold as gtr amp spks[16ohm]...the 'statistics' were quite diff

-ALSoriginals would be an easier find[letme 'post' the stats]

-the silvers that i bought new in '93 are still fine, [believe it or not]

***ALSoriginals/4ohm =3.5ohm...FS[hz] =28.5...Qms =4.03...Qes =4.03...Qts =2.0...Vas[m3] =NA...BI =NA...Xma[mm] =12.7
-[pt #SW-1220FL]...20oz mag, 90W, 1"VC

***plats-silvers/16ohm =14.92ohm...24.75...8.112...4.496...2.893....4578...3.70...12.7...[same order as above]
-[pt #WP-1220] 20oz mag, 90W, 1"VC

-as stated previosly, them 16ohm drivers are for gtr amps, i've found

Just want to double check before I order them...if I have the silvers (48" ribbon and 3 - 12's per side) is the WP1220 correct? Looks like the same speaker (they e-mailed me a pic of it but called it a plat?)
I got a response from
http://www.dynavox.com/shipping.php

The link works for me?
Thanks for the info guys! \:D/ \:D/

-YES, WP-1220 = silvers and/or platinums

-mz RR, the woofs 'seem' really cheap BUT work excellente [mr BC had a hard time getting a manufacturer to make 'em]

-only seen them fail at the surrounds [age]...[repair 'kits', from what i read are poor quality]

-according to your serial #'s [early] and my pairs...

-silvers were made '90 - '93 [w/'92 and '93 being mk4's]

-thought previously 'they' were '89- '93

-oh, the wp-1220's only have 1pos and 1neg 'spade'[as opposed to the 'stockers' w/2 ea] and a great time to rewire w/at least 16 gu wire [w/lotsa fine stands]

-keep us posted...and go slo

Tweak tip for those cheap ass woofers. Apply Dynamat to the basket spokes to eliminate ringing issues.

Just the outside of the spoke works great.

Re: Platinum and Silver model woofers

Well the speakers should be delivered tomorrow. 75 bucks for tax and duty charges. Just in case any canucks want to know what UPS charged. I can see the $26 for taxes and I don't mind the duty charge...but they quoted me 50 not 75 -the bums, also paid 27 bucks to orevox for shipping so all in all add 100 bucks on top of your order. About $310 delivered for 6 woofers.
Anyway should be well worth it, the foam on ours is looking fragile. Thanks for the post about this as now we will enjoy the AL silvers even longer.
Already replaced the binding posts. Looks 8)

Jean, you haven't been reading my rant posts on using UPS for crossborder shipping. NEVER, NEVER, EVER use UPS to ship anything crossborder. What you missed in there is that all shippers charge a Brokerage Fee. USPS and FedEx are reasonable and charge the brokers fee (usually $13 to $18) without adding a profit. UPS charges anywhere from $35 to $85 for their brokerage fee. Taxes and Duty are going to be the same no matter who you use as it is illegal for them to make a profit on those.

UPS are fine for shipping inside 1 country; their only problem is cross-border shipping.

Re: Platinum and Silver model woofers

ARGH..........I was told that UPS is cheaper than Fed-Ex?
Well live and learn... tis my luck. No matter it's done.
Anyway spending more cash is the reason I wake up in the morning and go to work, isn't it? Teehee

Re: Platinum and Silver model woofers

FedEx may charge you $5 to S10 more for shipping, but they don't screw you on the Brokerage Fee so it still comes out cheaper.
