Carver Platinums
Carver Platinums
Hey guys,
Anyone have wiring diagram for Amazing Platinums. Just replaced 1 60in ribbon and all eight woofers. Seems like there is very little bass. Sounds fine with powered sub hooked up and really bad without the sub. I know that they are wired in series and crossed at the 3rd woofer due to woofer being upside down. I'm quite amazed at the soundstage just need more bass. I have plenty of power 600x2.
Thanks.

Yeah. It's not knock me down but it is a full sound just the same. I have a couple of options that you may be interested in. I have a Clearwater electronic crossover for bi amping as well as we'll as a Esu . Either will make it better although it still is not active sub worthy . Still not bad as they do rock. They are classical, vocal, jazz, type speakers. They do rock ok and miss the bass boat on tech and rap. Just depends on your needs.

At volumns over half my plats will literally make the windows bulge with each bass note. There is something wrong. Have you replaced any of the caps in your crossovers? If you don't have the service manual, I can e-mail it to you.

Re: Carver Platinums
If you just replaced the woofers with new ones from dynavox, you can expect a good amount of break in time before the woofers come into their own. I replaced all six in my silvers and it literally took weeks before the drivers were broken in. Little by little the bass will increase but like you are experiencing, when I first replaced mine, they had little to no bass.

Re: Carver Platinums
sounds like your inductor coils are burnt out.
this is letting the highs go to your woofers.
do you have a test tone cd?

Re: Carver Platinums
Hello guys,
Nothing done except replacing the woofers and the ribbion. I did take the powered sub out of the system and it sounded a lot better with bass settings on my pre set @ max. I do not have a test cd. I have not recapped anything. I have never done it before. This is my first experience with these speakers as I have been using AL-III's. Maybe I had my sub adjusted wrong @ 120hz. Does Tom @ vintage rebuild these? Thanks for your response.

Re: Carver Platinums
Make sure your speakers are set to LARGE without the sub. Otherwise, I'd suggest setting the sub to 40 hz & the speakers to SMALL (if we're talking bass management on an H/T system).

Re: Carver Platinums
As I mentioned before, if these are new woofers they need a good amount of break in time. If they are used it is another issue.

Just wanted everyone to know that these babies are kick'n, just needed a little break in time. Thanks for your advice. Sounds so good I'm think'n about tube amps!!

Re: Carver Platinums
That's great to hear! So did you get the woofers from Dynavox? I'm thinking about doing the same, so I'm very interested in your opinions of the Dynavox replacement woofers. I called Dynavox and they told me "well, they're replacements. .." which didn't instill a lot of confidence...ddhoferjr wrote:Just wanted everyone to know that these babies are kick'n, just needed a little break in time
