Biamping Amazings today

I have 3 amps to choose from I am using A behringer cx-3400 crossover and have 3 amps to choose from where should I use them? I have an Adcom 555 CARVER M500t And a CARVER TFM45 which to the woofers and Which to the ribbons?? Thanks

Go all Carver at first with the TFM-45 on the woofs and the M-500t on the ribbons. Then swap and see which you like best. Then, move the Adcom around to see what you like best. I'm willing to venture that the M-500t will stay on the ribbons. Well, maybe not — maybe not enough juice to the ribbons.

Update: Well after working on my systems all day I started off with a Hafler DH 110 preamp into a behringer csx3400 active crossover into a M500t hooked to the ribbons and a TFM 45 to the woofers. After alot of tweaking the crossover I have to say wow! I think this is what I want clean and loud!!!! (I was originally was powering the ALS's with a lone ADCOM GFA-555 I was very happy with the sound but not very loud) I played it most of sunday while I was putting some finishing touches to my game room/ cave 25' x35' seperate from the main house I was very happy with the sound. I usually cant leave well enough alone so went I got home today I played around with the settings and it got even better.The ribbons can sure suck the M500t dry so I switched the amps around- tfm 45=>ribbons m500t=> woofs well OMG it came alive those ribbons really started singing and the bass seamed tighter. I was playing a Jonny Lang cd Lie To ME (loud) my wife came in and was 2 ft away in could barely hear her talk/yell. she said it sounds like hes in the room . Tomorrow I will try the ADCOM On the woofers even though I hope to keep it all Carver I think the bass might be even tighter??? we'll see. The amps got pretty hot when pushing hard I have a thermostatically controlled set of fans for audio apps I think I will put on top of the amps they should only kick in when pushing them and at that volume I dont think You'll hear them. What do you guys think??? These Speakers are AMAZING!!!!

You're probably pushing the needles on the M-500t pretty good with those ribbons. You'd get a little more umph with the TFM-45.

Using the active crossover & not running any bass through the M500 should have taken some of the stress off it...I'm surprised it gave out, but probably due to the 4 ohms load more than anything....

I was crossing them over at 200hz+ how does that sound? To low? Tuesday is a driving day at work so I have time to think So...... On the originals, the ribbons are split. Can you split them and operate them alone (30" piece) so does this mean each individual unit is 4ohms and when you put them together you get 2ohms. If this is so? Can you run an amp to each half (through the crossover of course) on the 3rd channel or split the 2nd channel has anyone tried this? just a thought

Are the passive crossovers still in the Amazings? If so, you should cross where tehy crossed. If not, 200Hz sounds ideal.

Crossovers are out and I installed some nice double binding posts. I removed them so if I wanted to use them someday (probably not) I could just wire them outside the speaker probably just attach them to the base. Im going out to try the ADCOM GFA555 on the woofs I'll update when I listen for a while. Mark

That was easy without a doubt the carver wins! Didn't even have to listen for a while. The ADCOM sounded a little hollow and the distortion lights came on way to easy just a little more tswist on the knob an the amp shut down (Is this clipping) until I backed off. Ill button it up now and let her be for now. Should I get a different amp for the woofs or should the 500t be good with 4ohms any suggestions I never know what I'll come across. thanks Mark

I've never driven Amazings, so I don't know how sensitive the woofers are. Did you try the Adcom on the woofers with the TFM-45 on the ribbons? I thought the Adcom 555 could deliver 325 Watts into 4 ohms.

Yes the TFM45 looks like its staying with the ribbons I thought the 500 was sweet and juicy like these nutz. on the ribbons till I tried the 45 on them all I can say is wow wow wow they like the power I guess. The 500 is driving the woofers just fine I think Im where I want to be unless a killer deal comes along like a tfm 75 or sunfire 600x2 or maybe another 45 or 55 (dreaming). You never know what pops up on craigslist? Never assume somebody has gotten that killer deal already (100.00 for a mint tfm45) the ad was 3 days old I figured it had to be gone.

Well, usually the ribbons can take all that you can throw at them. I run 800 watts (4R) to each of my 48" ribbons. Same to the woofers. Thus my pair of AL-IIIs are getting 3200 Watts! Bwaaahhaahhaaa.
