What the Hell Is this

Contiued weird shit with these spreakers I bought. I have a spare woofer so there is no great big disaster, I thought I'd seen it all with the binding posts . The woofers all seemed in great shape surrounds in tact no creases in the honeycomb and suddenly I looked down at the back of the bottom woofer on one speaker and saw this. What you're looking at is a hunk of pink insulation with caulking holdig it there. What The F--K!!!!
Re: What the Hell Is this
Wow, backyard mechanics! This made think of my brother. He bought a old 59 GMC truck, this was years ago! and drove it about a week and started hearing BAD gear grinding and clucking from the transmission. When he pulled it out for repair what did he find? They put saw-dust! in the transmission to lesson the noise! The things people do to fix a noise!!
amassing!

Re: What the Hell Is this
When I was a kid alot of my neighbors would put there shit speakers out for the trash men, most of the time it was because thay ripped the woofer. Hell I had no money " I was 10 or 11 at the time" so I would just use white glue on the back of the woofer and good as new.
Not saying It was wrong for the last owner to do what he did, but kinda crappy not telling you about his little patch job.

Between FrankieD and I we have logged in over 12,000 miles going and coming from Carverfest's. Don't let the miles in between play with your mind. Get over it, jump on a plane get to the fest and have a great time !
Re: What the Hell Is this
Art.....this just strengthens my argument that a person should have to show I.D. when buying caulking guns.
Being in construction for 30 yrs I've seen some of the wildest things done with caulk and duct tape........
One thing, after its all said and done YOU will have the satisfaction of knowing it was YOU that brought them
back from caulking hell and restored them to "Original"
Good luck Art.....keep us posted.

Re: What the Hell Is this
I'm pretty sure that's not a Carver approved repair.

Political Correctness...defined

I can't believe you didn't hear that. On the plus side the repair will be a snap.

Re: What the Hell Is this
Never had them turned on. Binding posts were in such terrible shape I couldn't risk ruining my amps.

TOLD YOU TO TAKE THE REAR GRILLS OFF

Whatever you do in life will be insignificant, but it's very important that you do it 'cause nobody else will

Re: What the Hell Is this
most likely...........
the cone shifted on the spider.....and caused the voice coil to rub and make unwanted noise (sometimes a lot)
..... mechanically "off loading the cone" from the rear will stop this noise........
....THIS IS NO FIX AT ALL...the peformance, and peramiters of the driver is eliminated.
...solution:
- recone the driver
- replace it
...good day!

Backyard mechanic? Not. Try common shyster. Putting sawdust in a noisy transmission is an old trick of crooked used car/truck sellers! He was not trying to "fix it"; just mask the noise until he could unload it...
