Crossover Questions

Skip, if you have the schematics for the upgrades originals (60" ribbons and honeycomb woofers), I'd really like to have a look at them. Can you post them or give me a PM?

OK, here's a picture of my left crossover on my upgraded Plats. I am the third owner of this pair. The guy I bought them from purchased them after the original owner's kid ran a pencil through one of the original ribbon pairs. He had them upgraded after he bought them and supplied me with the name of the shop that performed the upgrade for him in central PA, so I would have to believe the crossovers were replaced as part of the package upgrade. It looks like the crossover part number is written on the board.

Rodney, I'm looking at your picture. Under those 4 25W resistors, I believe there is an inductor, a 150µF electrolytic (NP) and a 100µF mylar cap. Is that all that's under there?

I forgot, there's probably a 7 ohm resistor under there too. Art, what is the value of the black cap that standing up on the board next to that transformer-like thing. If it equivalent to the two blue caps in Rodney's picture, you have essentially equivalent crossovers. That still bother me about the woofers, though.

I'm confused Eddie. I see no number on Art's crossover. I thought we were trying to verify that Art had the same upgraded crossover as Rodney, so I was going by parts and the schematic I have here on my desk. Anyway, I think the P/N for a Platinum is 601-00528-00 (A-E).

Bill what about that yellow cap....on rodneys it says 100V on Arts it says 200V

Like I know what any of that is ........just an observation.......interesting though.

I'd say Art is a little safer than Rodney if he cranks it. Same 10µF capacitance, though. It's that black cap that is curious to me. Rodney's has a pair of 200µF caps in parallel (400µF). The platinum crossover calls for a 450µF cap there. If Art has 450µF, he has a platinum crossover rather than the upgrade. It should only change the frequency response a little, though.

That photo doesn't fill in any blanks for me. I've seen another picture of platinum crossovers and that was different too. I really have no idea of what I'm looking at.Those things are just greek to me. Maybe that one is some sort of hybrid. Did anyone else convert their originals and get the same thing as weitrhino?????????????????

O.K here are the differences between my crossovers and those of weitrhino. I will explain in terms of things. I'm a complete dummy when it comes to capacitors resistors etc Mine has a black thing with 450uF -150V written on it vs the other with 2 blue things with 200uF-150v. The yellow thing on mine says 10K 200V vs 10.0K 100V. Now, if you know what those things do maybe someone can explain why they would be different. Here sits a clueless man when it comes to this shit.

Well, I've gone and reassembled the whole thing. We have 5 guests staying with us and space is at a premium but if need be, I can re-examine the crossover again tomorrow.
