tfm35 with als111

Just pickrd up a tfm35 .I have a choice between using this or using two tfm24's on my als111.Any opinoins?

Or you could bi-amp with 1 of the 24's on the woofers & the 35 on the ribbons couldn't you?

One 24 would go to the ribbons and the other 24 to the woofers......

If you have identical amps, I'm in favor of vertical bi-amping, with one amp on each speaker (one channel on the ribbons and one on the bass). This way, the amp can share power between channels, and it's unlikely that there will be a lot of treble content at the same time there is a lot of bass. However, usually high bass content shows up in both L & R channels at the same time.

Good call BillD but he only has 1 TFM35. He could use 1 TFM 24 (alone) for each channel of woofers & the TFM 35 for the ribbons.

I'm assuming the ribbons need more power than the woofers from everything I've read (my instinct would be the opposite with the bass drawing more power).

Bass just uses more juice (the area under a 40 Hz sine wave versus a 10kHz sine wave) But, the wider frequency a driver covers (like a ribbon going from 150 Hz ->), coupled with their inefficiency, you might be right. Aside from my M-400s, I've never had two amps that were the same. Even my M-400s are like the black and white Scotties (one black, one champagne), so I've never tried vertical bi-amping with two separate amps. I have four channels of a Sunfire 400 ~ seven bi-amping my AL-IIIs.

One day I'll post a plot of dissapated power vs frequency (at constant SPL). I suspect it will show ~90% of power goes to frequencies below ~1k Hz.

I'll go with the two tfm 24's and put the tfm35 on my polk 3.1 tl's.I also picked up a ct7 pre amp.Does anyone know where I can get a manual for it?

That's assuming an equal load, Rich. Personally, I'd put the heftier amp on the ribbons...they are pretty goddamn hungry...
