Just as a point of clarification there are 2 conflicting post listed on the forum one states that the tubes are 12AX7's the other states that the tubes are 6AX7's. I would assume that since the output tubes are 6BQ5's that the heater filiment voltage from the transformer is 6 volts. Which would make the correct tubes 6AX7's. Is this correct?

That's what the needlenose pliers are for.

I also suggest you see your dentist & doctor & scarf up any tools they've deemed old/replaceable. Hemostats are PARTICULARLY useful.

How many guys will be in the room? It is not like we will all be in lines at desks like in a class room.

Now I am even more worried -- :(

Hemostats are the clamps that pinch off blood vessels during surgery. They can clamp onto most things, and are useful for working on electronics.

I do believe that we can wire it up both ways for whichever tube you wish to use. Let me verify this....

The 6AX7 is a very odd tube. Another dual triode probably. Maybe a 6DJ8?

Damn, this is a long thread...

I finally found it....
gerberj wrote:Hello all,

Sorry for taking so long to reply. I have just confirmed with Bob that you will definitely be able to wire up this amp for use with the 12AX7 if you so desire. However, they are still coming standard with the highest quality 6AX7s. Either way, your amp will sound wonderful. We have designed it around the 6AX7, and as I have previously stated the distortion is outrageously low for that reason. If somewhere down the road you wish to change from using the 6AX7 to the 12AX7, or vice versa, it is an easy change that will take all of 10 minutes.

](*,)

BUT....when I look at the first post on the thread, I see this.....
The tubes needed will be:
(x4) 6BQ5 or 7199
(x2) 6AX7
or is it....

12AX7 and 6AX7s? This will be confirmed shortly.....damn, you think this would be an easy question to answer. #-o

For the "hot house" Carver Amp building day, got in 6 gallons of Lipton Tea and a case of Pepsi today. If anyone could help with some more or some ice, that would be good. I guess bringing your own cup is a given.
