Awesome!! I will anxiously await your thoughts! I've been curious about those for some time and just never got around to ordering any. Hope they're great!!

I listened thru another good session last night, getting more burn in time. I really got a huge kick out of turning the lights out and listening to the image of the performers floating out in front of me. There was just enough faint light coming thru the windows to see no speakers in front of me....just the performers. Of course, this morning I had to pick up the CD's from the floor where I missed the CD tray (just kidding...ha...ha...)!

Military 7025 tubes (a very good substitution tube)

Amperex (very good tubes)
Mullards (2nd best)
Sevtlana tubes (really good Russian tubes)
Black plate RCA's (not the best, but good)

GE tubes are inconsistent.. (lucky to get 2/5 that work as a matched pairs)

All Russian tubes are not a good choice of tubes, they are remarketed tubes, they are CLOSE to what they are called, but not 100% the right tube... Joe says that Russian tubes are noisey...


** Interesting fact ** Samsung tubes was originated in Japan and eventually became Schuguang tubes.

bought 4 TAD EL84's & 4 Russian nos tubes 6P14P-EV & 4 EL84 Mullard Cryo Matched Quad. should be enough for awhile, will be interesting to see how they all sound!! should see the mullards & the tads soon, the russians are coming from russia so they will take a few weeks!!

I asked the tube store if I could exchange/upgrade the JJ's and the graciously said yes.

This is one tube they recommended if there is a concern with higher plate voltages.

I'm still kind of stuck on the higher plate voltage on the other thread. It seems like that may limit the tubes these amps can use.

I have been running the Mullard re-issues...link WAY back in the thread. They are good for 600v also. I have not had any issues and play the amp daily since CarverFest ended.

so i was reading the voltage at the cry tubes to be tested at 325. that may become an issue in the long run.

Spec sheet for Mullard EL84 shows Va(b) MAX as 550v
