Sunfire Signature 600-Two

Post by BrianT » Sun May 26, 2013 5:05 pm

As some of you are aware, I purchased a Sunfire 600x2 in January 2012 sight unseen.
Tom (treitz3) was kind enough to pick it up for me.
He delivered it to me at Carverfest 2012, I brought it home back to Canada and put it in storage
with some other gear in the basement.
Well today I pulled it out, first time I have taken it out of the box, man it looks pristine, (needs cleaning) not a mark on it and the light even works :)
The serial number starts with 0410 so it looks like it was built October 2004.

Now on to the sound, well I find it to have a bloated bass, in comparison to my Silver Seven Tubes, but very easily corrected using
the Contour Control on the Sunfire Tube PreAmp.
The overal sound stage is not as big, maybe 2/3 the size, but still large. The highs lack some of the sparkle, but are very close.
The mids are near perfect compared to the Silver Seven Tube Amp.
On a scale of 10, using the Silver Sevens Tubes as 10 I would give it a good 8.5 maybe even a 9
This is a great amp, i'm very happy to have one in my rig.

Bloated bass? Are you sure you didn't have something turned up to compensate for lack of bass with the SIlver Sevens? ;-)

I've found all the Sunfire amps I've auditioned to have very tight, controlled bass. Interesting....

Gary

The Silver Sevens do not have a lack of bass, they have a very tight and fast bass, the note is there and ends very fast, no lingering note.

As for having something turned up, that was not the case, I had the contours defeated with the Silver Sevens. Turned down 1 click with the 600x2

Brian...It appears that your system is set up right in front of glass windows. Do you have acoutic damping blinds/coverings?
In reality, it only matters what it sounds like to YOU!!!

John

I'm like nearly everybody, if the price is right, then its gone \:D/
But seriously I could be persuaded to sell them, with the tubes and caps I have about 12K in them
I don't think I would have a problem getting my cash back.

I always been here, not to much happening in my life since the gauntest in Florida, hence no post.
But I do check the forum every day.

Hey buddy you are awake =D> you are correct my rig is is in front of a window.
But my speaker are not, I run 16ft speaker cables so I can get my speakers away from the window.
and yes I do have the worst listing setup of anybody.
One speaker is in a small recess and the other opens out to a hall way, not the best layout.

I am a fan of the 600X2.
I have one bought a couple years back from Mitch and in the last couple months acquired a second due to the good will of Jesse.
The first one works great.

The second one was rebuild by Jesse's friend Bill who did the work at Rita's. It is better than new as he corrected known problems That are discovered down the road in any new amp. Jesse gave me this one for costs. (how good is that?)

My "new" one and my old one sound identical to me.
They now power McIntosh speakers, one on the low and the other with mid and high.

They are musical, and can do bass with ease.

If your 600X2 is not "exceptional, sent it to Jesse's friend Bill.

The 600 is my first choice for Carver amps.
If yours is shot, $1000 and I pay shipping to Bill.
What say you?
