Anyone ever see replacement cases?

Post by airboyd » Thu Nov 27, 2014 8:22 pm

Has anyone had luck with any of the repair shops or seen anywhere that someone sells any of the cases from dead units?

I have a TG III that has some deeper scratches and want to try and clean it up before selling.

You could try Tom at Vintage Hifi of Pittsburgh once in a while he has different case parts. Also Angelod from this forum may have a brand new face for that unit if that is something you require.

I would think that if you did find a case that was in good shape the cost to buy it would outweigh the gain in price you would obtain. JS.....
In reality, it only matters what it sounds like to YOU!!!

One other thing is that there may be some cases that fit more than one unit. I haven't tried to swap them but it looks like the case on my Classic Tube preamp would fit both my 300x2 and 600x2 amps, and vice versa. I am actually thinking of swapping the preamp case which is kind of beat with my 300x2 case which is in much better shape. If you have more than one Sunfire product you might try swapping cases.

Some of the cases are interchangeable. There's the 17" & 19" versions, Signature vs Non Signature and the Receiver / Pre open back types. Some of the Signature amps are deeper than the non Signatures so you want to measure first to save time. The 17" TGP-II cover will work on some amplifiers and same with the 19" TGP-III. After that they switched to the Receiver style top cover with an open back. The TGP-I is its own unique type and will not fit on anything else. Hope this helps!

Instead of a replacement case, why not get it anodized? I'm talking with a local anodizing company in Grand Rapids, Michigan about anodizing my amps a Champagne gold color.
