Amp for CRS3s, CRM2s, and CRS3C?

Post by TORO3 » Sun Sep 10, 2017 11:57 am

Hey guys,

Long time no talk. Haven't been on this forum for roughly 6 years, but I've finally come full circle - perhaps in life and in my audio journey. Married, moved back to the Phoenix, new job (s), and three more children per my wife (they're actually dogs). The recession hit me pretty hard financially like so many others. To help me recover I sold my CRM2s, CRS3Cs, and Sunfire Architect at the time. Throughout the years I came by and briefly cruised the forum, but quite frankly didn't have much to offer.

I recently completed my 5.1 system by acquiring the CRM2s for the rear, CRS3s for the front, and CRS3C for the center. My plan is to go with separates, which is where my question lies. The preamps I'm currently debating are the Outlaw 975 or Integra 80.1 - both can be had for under $600. For the amp: The Outlaw Model 5000 at 120 RMS X 5 @ 8 ohms and 180 RMS X 5 at 4 ohms. Reviewers have stated that Outlaw was conservative with their numbers, but regardless, do you think this amp would suffice?

Great to be back you guys.

Would a Sunfire 200x5 be out of the question? You are already thinking the Outlaw may be under powered. Why not go with a known powerhouse like the Sunfire? Just my thoughts \:D/

Yes, agree with MRHP the Sunfire Cinema Grand 200x5 would be a great amp for what you have. Those speakers maybe small but they will take and love a ton of power. Back when I was running the CRS-3's as my main speakers I was running them bi-amped with a Cinema Grand Signature 400x5 or 800 watts per speaker.

I'll follow the advice. Appreciate the guidance from the three of you. There's a Sunfire Cinema Grand Architect for $1395 on audiogon that I've been eying with two days left on the listing. Need to do my research a little further to determine whether it's a good deal - been out of the game for a while :-k

$1400 is a little steep imo for that amp, I have a newer refurbished 200 seven I could sell you for around that price if interested.

Appreciate the offer. Bought a pre the other day which maxed out my budget. Still need to purchase the interconnects and speaker wire (as well as the amp). When you get a moment could you perhaps send me some pics either on this post or privately? Only when it's a convenience for you. Not in a tremendous rush on this end. Trying to practice self control in lieu of fighting my strong desire to set everything up...

Here's a picture of the front, the amp is in excellent condition with only a few very small marks. This was the last made in America model with the larger power meter that matches the TG-IV. These are great amps and are dead quiet. I'd like to get $1350 shipped for it through Paypal or US Money order. This is the "200 seven" model, thanks.

Greatly appreciate the offer and picture, jjptkd! I'll reach out to you when the funds become available (if of course you still have it).

As of right now, I'm currently dealing with a broken CRS3C due to shipping. If everything works out and I don't end up heart broken, I'll post some pretty wicked pictures of the damage.

I've been on this forum quite a bit lately trying to catch up and learn as much as I can. I really haven't been on too many, if any, forums for the past couple of years - yet this one always seemed a little more intimate and inviting. Regardless, let me "enlighten" you about my interesting audio journey. I went from having the following system:

Sunfire Cinema Seven
CRM2s and CRS3C
HRS8
HK 240 receiver

To this after a year or two...

Ascend Acoustic Sierra 2s
conrad-johnson MF-2300
conrad-johnson PV-14LS II
Music Hall Maverick CD Player
PS Audio DigitalLink III DAC

Sold almost everything for a small media room due to a move, which included...

Pioneer Elite receiver
Polk Audio Rti A5s, Rti A1s, and Csi A4
HSU ULS-15 sub

Like life always does, I changed directions and made another move, which lead me to (gasp)...

Bose Cinemate GS Series II

As things slowly and finally stabilized in my life I made some effort to get back to fidelity (take a deep breath)...

Martin Logan Vision sound bar

HSU VTF-3 MrkV

To be frank, I was actually surprised about the Bose and ML. If you take them for what they are, and nothing more, they do a decent job. This audio journey is pretty reflective of my life. Ups and downs like everyone else. Yet at the end of the day, sometimes we just need some affirmation that we were going in the right direction the first time around...some of us just take the long road - both in life and in audio.

Full circle, guys, full circle. Attached some porn pics of the cj system for your enjoyment.
