CarverFest 2018 Cabin Reservations (LOCKED)
Re: CarverFest 2018 Cabin Reservations
Brian – thanks so much for saying what's been needing to be said. Now others are chiming in. I'm ashamed that I never wrote a word about it, but what happened to the Sauters last year was absolutely shameful. Does history count for nothing? Create the first Carver Forum, attend every single Fest, right from the first; miss one year due to work demands, and you're pushed out – it this us?
Between disgust at that, and the temporary loss of my roommates due to their own job pressures, I was not coming in 2017 – until one guy stepped up and did what had to be done to get me there. That one guy was Travis - and now, a few months later, he gets that same shoddy treatment. Enough of this shit!
It seems we need a sort of constitutional convention, to consider how to handle the various possibilities that crop up, including working people who can't commit to two full weeks. We've never elected any official leaders, or given them the power to decide on a list of rules, as far as I know. If we ever do, let's hope the chosen leadership cares more for individuals as opposed to concerns about pleasing Watershed over fear of a price increase. Watershed should be concerned about pleasing us. On the dates we choose to visit, that place would be a virtual ghost town were it not for the Fest, and they know it.

Re: CarverFest 2018 Cabin Reservations
I cannot tell you all how honored I am by this show of support. However, for this year, I think it is too late to repair the damage. I have made arrangements to stay off site, but I will still be able to show up a few different days to see all my Carver family that I have grown to love!
I do agree that a meeting of the minds is in order. We need to come up with a plan to avoid this kind of BS in the future. Sure, as a group, we can come up with something that works for us all and gives some regard to returning attendees.
Thank you all for voicing your thoughts and feelings on the matter!

If I do remember correctly, Toymaker was told that his normal space in Cabin 12 was taken, as the person who stayed there the year
Toymaker could not make it had first dib's.
So Toymaker had dibs on Cabin 1 and then for some reason Toymaker changed his mind and decided not to come. (I do not know the reason)
In Travis case, he is being told book your vacation time at work, call dibs on a cabin for 7 days, (witch he had done cabin 1) but if any new comer wants it for 14 days Travis will not get a cabin.
As TreeHouse "C" is still open, and Cabin 3 is not in his budget I and I believe others would like to put Travis and his wife down for TreeHouse "C" for 7 days of his choice dates
and guaranty his spot.
Travis would have to call dib's himself.

Doug (Dnspy007) committed to Treehouse C for the full run about a week ago. Maybe his post ran into pecking order problems?

Re: CarverFest 2018 Cabin Reservations
Right, Brian - Travis could not commit to a deal that he might later have been jettisoned from. And even if he could, he quite understandably finds it difficult to justify the extra price and extra space of Cabin Three. It seems that nobody else is wild about that deal, either. It's clearly not like any of the others, and much of that extra square footage is quite inefficiently laid out, at least from the Fester point of view – lots of little rooms, as I recall it, but no really big one. Don't know why WS deviated so far from their basic model on this one, but it should be made clear to them that we are less than delighted with it, and therefore don't feel obliged to try and fill it for them. At least not at the asking price, which I understand is close to the cost of Cabin Five, a cabin designed to hold at least four times as many people, and with parking for at least twice-four times as many cars...

Robert
I spoke with Tarvis this morning, he tells me that the cost of Cabin 3 was about $800.00/$900.00 more than Cabin 1 for the week
Anyhow he has made other arrangements off site, but plans on being there for the last long weekend not as long as he would like
but he has managed to work something out.

Brian - Thanks, glad to hear it - better than nothing. Did he mention whether his Mrs. will be along?

Good to hear that Travis and wife are attending! Attaboy!
Re: CarverFest 2018 Cabin Reservations
Travis, sorry to hear your plans did not work out as you would have liked; however, I’m happy to hear that you wil be able to attend for the weeekend. I saw that you made off-site accommodations. Just wondering if you considered the other cabins that are still available a couple miles away. They are also off-site but maybe competitively priced with the casino rooms.
There are still 3 available.

Those extra cabins are 2/3 and 5 bedroom. Not an economical one bedroom. I'm actually going to stay with some good friends who live about 90 minutes away from the Fest
Hopefully, no one comes along and decides that they would like to have your tree house, or Steve's. Both of those are subject to getting bumped. That's why this whole situation needs to be addressed. It would make no sense that you guys, who come year after year, would get bumped for a new attendee who decides they can stay a little longer than you.

Re: CarverFest 2018 Cabin Reservations
Well this senseless drivel has cost us Mark Lucas. He is no longer on the forum and will not attend CarverFest. Mark has been a great friend and mentor. He and I worked together to upgrade the Pecking Order and hopefully bring new members in to the fold. He noticed as do I membership has become stagnate and we need to get more folks involved. This was MY call. You don't have to like it. The Senior Members enacted the Pecking Order to maintain a sense of continuity as the Fest moves forward. It isn't perfect but is has worked and many have benefited from its working and the CarverFest relationship with the Watershed. Some of you would have lost your cabins years ago if not for that relationship.
Pat yourselves on the back for a job well done.

Whatever Ray, there is no C.F. king!!
the majority of the people don't agree with it so that's how it should be handled! Nobody else rents that entire mountain but us, WS isn't our customer, we are the customer, you want to drive away regulars to get new people? Yeah that's a good idea, if you think that is ok, then maybe I don't want any part of it either! It is so asinine I can't even believe you thought that was the right thing to do! I thought I knew you guys, guess not!

Re: CarverFest 2018 Cabin Reservations
I think you outlined the main problem, Ray. You and Mark were concerned about bringing new members into the fold, while everyone else was more interested in accommodating current and repeat attendees. I don't really understand the need to "grow" the fest when we all know there is limited real estate. I would think the goal would be be to show courtesy to the people who have been coming and to guarantee their place at the fest.
