Carver AL III's 48" Ribbon Needed

Post by Scarabeo » Mon Jun 28, 2010 2:38 am

](*,) I ended up with a bad Ribbon on one of my AL III's A out of place magnet pushing on the ribbon film with buzzing :(

If you have one you want to sell - (HOOK ME UP PLEASE)...

I dont have the funds for a sweet re-pair job from the Master Ribbon re builder even though it would be nice! PM ME, I am friendly and have a little cash and my speakers are sad.

Hi,I don't know if they are the same but I have a spare silver series AL with a 48" ribbon that I'm not using. It didn't buzz the last time I used it.(or ever)I have 3 of these speakers that the woofer surrounds finally gave out on,so I may sell the extra ribbon I have to help finance the woofer purchase.(Price on the Woofers has gone WAY up,X3+)I had just purchased a C19 tube pre to drive my TFM-45 into my silvers so dissapointment on the woofer situation would be an understatement!Just my luck.Anyway I have no idea if they are the same ribbon as the AL3,but if they are I have one.
Take care,Robert

Parts express has the 50 inch ribbon for $550 and the 48 inch carver replacement for $650 Question is - Why would not the 50 inch work just fine and has anyone done this? :-k

Well, you'll probably need to buy a pair because the original ribbon won't sound the same as the BG ribbon (either 48" or 50"). According to James they don't sound good, either, but then... Also, the ribbon impedance might be different and, if so, the crossover would need to be modified.
It should sound like it isn't there!

if it is not ripped, and the magnet just came loose, i would practice on taking it apart to see if i could do it. just for practice.
