Not only do you need the sub, you also need the "Motion Control Module" that came with them, not to mention that it is VERY preferable to have a pair with serial numbers above 1736, after the numerous changes/upgrades to the product had been completed. Also, the condition of the surrounds on the sub drivers needs to be checked. Being suspended inverted in the cabinet as they are, the effects of time and gravity can take their toll on them. (I owned a set of these for several years, acquiring them from a former Phase Linear employee and know of which I speak.) Check the conditions of the cones very carefully. Though these units can, in the main, take a lot of power, I literally tore the cone on one of the 'mid-bass' drivers in a main panel listening to "The Sounds of Trains" at high volume while driving the speakers with an M1.5t. All that said, there are few speakers that can deliver a 'wall of sound' like the Andromeda can!
