6 Meter Speaker Wires

Post by elgrau » Wed Feb 11, 2009 12:47 pm

I'll soon need some speaker wires (for the spherical speakers I'm building and that will be diagonally in my living room). Our sectional sets in the opposite corner, so when sitting in the center of this, you are equidistant from both speakers. The amp (TFM-42) will set behind the curved sectional in this opposite corner and thus (even though speaks about 12' from amp) with "ups/downs/curves" I'll need about 5.5 to 6 meter wires (18 to 20'). I searched a little on-line and most premium wires are 12' max in length that I could find. So question is: where can I find some "premium" speaker wires of this length (18 to 20')? Or should I just buy some "premium" wire (and ends) and DIY? If so, what wire and ends would you recommend? Budget: I'd like to stay in the $200 to $300 range for either new or eBay "used" wires! Thanks!

This outfit has some good reviews and will make them to any number and length you need for a "reasonable" cost. I think Audioquest wires are also available in custom lengths & terminated, or sold in bulk also. :)

I have seen these in the length you need on both ebay and audiogon. The prices vary greatly from sale to sale. There are a bunch of forum members that are currently using them such as myself, Toymaker, Rabbit, Dyeraudio just to name a few....

Problem solved: Dreamer sold me a pair of his Nordost's (20'; ideally, too long for his purposes but perfect length for my "project"). Thanks to all for responding!

Yeah, I've had these Nordosts for a couple years, and they have been WONDERFUL cables. When I first got them, my speakers were much farther away from the amp that was driving them (a single M-500t), but now that I've got the S7t monoblocks, they are just WAY to long, and I hate seeing them laying there, all coiled up, with about 4 meters of their length going to waste. I think they will be much more useful in their "new home". :D

Now, I need to start the search for a short pair (2 or 3m) of Nordost Red Dawns. I've been wanting to upgrade, but couldn't justify it when I had the Solar Winds. In the meantime, it gives me the motivation to finish my "homebrew Anti-Cables" and get them hooked up. Evaluations and pics to be posted soon...

I have seen some odd length Preludes and Statement cables in the past, but if I do believe the people who were selling them had ordered them from P.S. Audio. You do not see them very often longer than 5 or 6 meters, and even the used ones tend to stay a little pricey the longer they are.
You might want to look in another direction for something of a decent quality in that length. I would consider looking on ebay. I have seen people selling long lengths of good name cable sometimes in complete rolls of various lengths at very reasonable prices.
