Q&A with Bob Carver

Does anyone have a transcript of the Q&A session?
I asked him which were his favorite Carver products and he responded with the Cube for amps as it was his bread and butter and the C4000 for the preamp.

WOW!!! So the Cube was his favorite amp ........ now I feel SOOO vindicated!

I'm so cool — I have both. Bet he didn't mention the C-500!

What he said is he couldn`t choose any one of his childern as a favorite he loves them all.

That's true Dave but in conversation he admitted a special fondness for the CUBE. (one of my favorites along with OBI). And No BillD he NEVER mentioned the C series.

Kuul, mine too. The cube was my first Carver and loved it, used it for 20 years plus till ToyMaker got it. You know, "Heck dad you don`t need that old thing now that you have your new amp."

Have the videos from CarverFest been put up on Youtube or somewhere yet? I'd LOVE to see them, and show them to a few people down here...

No not yet. It's going to take a little while. I have to break the hours of video up into smaller pieces 1st.
I will try to get it done in the next week or so.

I completely forgot to add a question to the list for the Q&A sessions. Did anyone happen to ask Bob C. why he hasn't visited and posted on the forum very much? Did he say whether he plans to come by more often ? Hope so !

Well, I'll be looking forward to all those great video clips! How are y'all going to do it? Are you going to set up a YouTube Channel for CarverFest videos? That would be cool, and it might be a little higher profile than just posting a bunch of individual vids. I've got no idea what that entails though...

Thanks for all the great work you guys did--this was a very fun event. I only regret that I couldn't make it out there for more than one day. Next year, I'll be there for the long haul, I promise...

What exactly WAS the C-500?

It was Bob's first amp at Carver. Look at my avatar — the beast below the C-4000

I'd thought that the "C" always meant a preamp only. And I'm also burdened by a vague recollection that there WAS an early Carver preamp that preceded the C-4000 - a simple one (without the SH that wasn't ready for a few years after the debut of the M-400).
I asked Bob about it but he said there was no such animal; however his memory back that far is not absolute, and when I saw that model number I thought I caught him, but guess not. Still, there SHOULD have been a preamp right from the start to complement the cube, wouldn't you say?

Bill is right. The C-500 was the first Carver amp in 1980, which, correct me if I'm wrong on this Bill, was basically a thoroughly revised and improved Phase Linear 400. It was put in production before the M-400 as it was being prepared for production and was accompanied by the C-4000 preamp. The next Carver preamp was the C-1 that was introduced in 1981 along with the M-500 amp and TX-11 tuner.
